If the price isn't too bad, I'd suggest the battery VW sells.
In August we had a very unusually hot day in Brisbane (38C). The 4 month old aftermarket battery boiled and acid spilled all over - killing the starter motor.
We had the car towed to VW and of course since it was not a factory part, warranty did not cover the repairs. We had to cover the $1300 in repair cost and the best the battery manufacturer offered was a replacement battery. That reminds me, I have to send that letter...
Lams, I do not envy you!
What brand of battery did this?
If you can not tell, please send me a PM!

If you are in Brisbane and are an active forum member then you can contact me for Century batteries. This is for very *active* forum members only, not for friends, family, mates at the pub, blokes with 15 posts, or your second cousin's uncle's best friend from work's son. I reserve the right to say no to anyone, or to stop at any time, and if I think I'm being taken advantage of then there will be harsh words spoken...
And no they are not from the back of a truck, they will be from the Century staff shop.

Ok, so after contacting Varta UK and VW parts (Highway VW) I have now found the following;
- OEM Varta 1J0915105AE 12V 70Ah 340 A Din 570A EN/SAE (570CCA) $255rrp
- Superseeded Part No: 000915105DG 12V 72Ah 380 A Din 680A EN/SAE (680CCA) $254rrp, this is an increase of 2Ah and 110CCA.
I have also found that the following can be used also;
- 1J0915105AH 12V 95Ah 450 A Din 760A EN/SAE (760CCA) $315rrp and this has an increase of 25Ah and 190CCA...Just need to check the dimensions as I think this might be from the V6, as they have the Battery in the boot!

The only issue they mentioned about the Supercharge Batteery is the fact that it can sometimes over heat and leak acid.
Be careful, depending of where the battery is positioned, as the leaking acid can easily eat through the transmission if it is positioned above it. There have been some VW and Audi's with this problem and gotten water contamination in the oil. Not a cheap repair I imagine....

I had my battery replaced after approx 4 years with a VW - part 000915105DG for $231 + gst.
Just another data point...
The battery in my 2007 Passat 2.0 TDI was playing at after 4 year and 2 months so I investigated replacements.
I got quoted $425 from one Sydney VW dealer which I knew couldn't be correct. I tried a second dealer who offered a price of $235.68 so that's where I bought it.
Battery is 000 915 105 DG and is rated at 12V 72Ah 640A EN/SAE 380A DIN.
The little book that comes with it is branded VW / Sert / Skoda / Audi.
I still have extended warranty and so I am careful to stick with all genuine parts.
I know there are only a few companies worldwide who make batteries, and only a few who make them in Australia, does anyone know how they match up as far as brands?
I know Varta is owned by Johnson Controls
Marshall is Exide
Who makes Federal?
Who makes AC Delco? In the US this is a mix of JCI and Global Battery (Korean)
Who makes Motorcraft? In the US and Europe this is JCI (used to inbclude Exide, but not anymore)
I know Exide is its own company
What about Bosch? I know in the US they are made by Exide, and in Europe a mix of Exide and Varta, but what about Australia?
What about Supercharge?
I would like to know who is making the stuff I buy, not just marketing it, and where it came from, and especially where it goes afterward. Any thoughts or information out there?
Hi I have a 07 V6 Passat Wagon. I was informed by the dealer in my last service that the battery is getting weak and needs to be replaced. VW dealer is charging $440 for a Varta battery ex labour cost.
I obviously bought one from a part shop for $230.
My challenge now is to remove the existing battery from its compartment in the trunk. It seems to be lock in place and I'm unable to see any clips without removing the side panel covers.
