Auto Recirculation of Air-Conditioning

Other than my 'hi there' post in the newbies section this is my first post.....

I have recently bought an '06 Passat Wagon TDI 103KW and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to stop the airconditioning switching off the recirculation option each time the car is switched off?

Hi I cannot directly answer your question, but while you are on the topic of recirculation of air conditioning, I wanted to add my two cents worth:

1. I took delivery of my MY10 Passat CC in December 09. The way the air con works may be different to your 06 Passat. In my CC, any time you adjust aircon, it indicates what you are doing in the RNS510 screen.
2. I must say the aircon unit is quite intuitive EXCEPT with respect to a few quirks:
(a) It seems that when the "dual" light is on, it actually does not mean it operates in dual mode, but lets you adjust each zone differently. I would have thought it should have been the other way around (ie when the light was on, it should have operated in dual mode!)

(b) There seems to be two recirculate options - one which recirculates air at all times, and another that seems to filter air automatically. Unfortunately, no matter how many times you press the button, the RNS510 indicates displays an icon which indicates a recirculating icon, even where it should NOT be recirculating! And given the crypic nature of when the light goes on for "dual" mode (as in (a) above), I am never quite sure whether recirculate is on or not, and if it is, when it is on. I was particularly confused as it seemed to be on one day in Automatic mode, yet it seemed to let in some foul smelling smoke from the vehicle in front.

(c) Also, the aircon does seem to have a mind of its own in switching automatic recirculate to off when you restart the car.

Therefore, I too would like to know:
1. How do you turn recirculate on automatically each time you start the car.
2. How do you know when the function is operating with reference to the lights indicated?! (Sorry the manual does not really help me based on my experience as indicated above).
