Wow thats a name from the Past...Rick used to do all the wheel etc work on my Lotus Escort back in the day!!! He was awesome and knows his stuff. Based on my experience in the distant past, i would trust him with my car today.....i will look him up.

Bummer - I reckon most of us has done this one time or another. Even if you are consciously cautious, it just takes one lapse in concentration (missus in the ear for example ). and it's all over.

Why don't you try talking to the dealer you bought the car from and see who they use to recondition their used cars or trade-ins - from my experience, these guys come out and do it on the spot and do a great job (check quality of work/reputation at the dealer).

If you didn't buy it from a dealer, just go to a car yard with a big used car lot and they will be able to recommend someone for sure.

Like the concept of the rim skins but I can't help but think they will detract a little from the look (a bit like covering your lounge suite in plastic). Even moreso if there's a colour-match problem. Great idea though to those of us less fussier than I.

I reckon fix the wheel, cop the financial pain, and vow never to do it again (easier said than done I know).

Yeah I know what you mean about the look, I was concerned about it initially too but for $50 I thought there's nothing to lose. You wouldn't even know they're there unless you really get up close and have a look, and for me that versus a scratched rim is something I can put up with. Also, they do different colours so you can generally find a match.

Fair comment Adrock - I guess I should keep an open mind until I see them.

Some kits for DIY to fix this quickly

Hey, if you're not fussed you could buy one of these kits online.
they are pretty cheap compared to taking it to the repairers.. as they use the same paint and same materials

have a look, and also free postage this week. There is one for full repair, and another one just to mask with the same silver paint colouring

                or

                cheers,
                s

Depulu are awesome, they do a proper job of it.

Usually when you get the local 'touch up bloke' to fix the rim they just grind the rim smooth, fill it and paint.

                  This creates two problems:

                  1. It will eventually perish and I have seen this type of repair change colour, crack and even fly off the rim smashing a driver's side mirror in half!

                  2. The paint used, again in the experience I have had with this type of repair, seems to be a magnet for brake dust. Usually the whole rim gets resprayed. Look out for caked up brake dust, it will accumulate quickly with the non factory finish.

At Depulu they remove the rim from the tyre, refinish the entire rim, fill if neccessary and rebake the rim so it has no imperfections. They do an amazing job. I had them fix two of my GTI rims after an incursion with the curb out the front of the NAB in Toowoomba (That's what you get for lending your father your pride and joy!) and they are factory perfect. The fella's there even gave the underbody a quick look over and did my pressures.

I was charged $160- per rim, one was very badly scratched up.

PM me if I can help?
