  • Buying A TDI Passat???

    Hi All,

I'm currently looking at a MY07 Passat TDI Sedan with 55000kms on the clock, and not having not much knowledge with regards to the cars after searching through old threads in this section looking for more information on them, I figured it'd be easier to just ask.

Are there any problems that should be addressed with these cars, or anything that should be looked for when looking at one? And what sort of thing would one need to keep an eye on in these vehicles, as I'm still learning about the VW range and the awesome DSG box.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

What engine type is it - the 125 or the 103? I have the 125 and it goes well but have only put 10000 on the clock so no major issues have presented yet.

The 103 pulls okay but with a chip to 121 it will be noticeably better.
        Oettinger do the chip

I found 125 to be more enjoyable and noticeably better at pulling than the 103.
The 103 will get you there but it is more reserved and gentle.

The only known problem with the TDI's is the Diesel particulate filter (DPR) which can clog up and break costing a fortune to replace from the dealer.
This generally occurs after 100,000-150,000km though.
Look into a provent kit or a DPF delete to maintain your vehicle integrity past 100,000km.

what price are they asking? what options.

note the 104kW was probably only available in 07, i think the 125kw started in 2008 onwards? ( someone may be able to be more specific)

i reckon the 125kw is great -highly recommended. like the little one that can it is so cool for a 2 litre pulling 1600kg.

i have a mate with the 2006 103kw and he loves it too.

Howsee, if you don't mind me asking; how much are you looking to spend?
            Private or from a dealer?

I would not chip a 103kw, I would just buy the 125kw to begin with...

But once again, it depends how much you are spending...

Feel free to PM if you do not want to discuss figures online.

yeah its before they brought out the 125 engine, it has no options and is $25,000. I'm also looking at a Jetta for $20,000 with 80k, leather and sunroof. Also both have full Volkswagen service history and DSG.

I have an 07 tdi (103kw). I have no major issues... but do find the DSG sometimes jerky from a standstill. Have a drive a make sure the DSG takes off smoothly.

The 125kw wasnt available when I bought mine.. but Im pretty happy with the performance of the 103. Only find it struggles sometimes when I have four onboard (inc luggage) and want to overtake in a hurry.

interesting . ... i bet the original owner paid 50k which makes 50% depreciation in 2.5-3 years with only slightly higher than average klms.

Thanks Glenn, your information regarding the vehicles was really helpful. If I ever decide to looking into changing things with it you'll be the first person I ask.
