  • 12 month 15000 klm service -general info

just had the passat serviced at Barloworld Moorabbin, triggered by klm + time at the same time.

cost was $400 incl which seems right . ( after original quoting $440 but i declined the loaner so maybe there's a fudge factor in there?)

I did ask what oil they used and it is Mobil 1 ESP 50W30 so its the good stuff. i had done an oil change at 7000klm using Castrol edge but next time i'll use the Mobil.

They also did the gearbox recall which is described as "37E8 - reprogram the gearbox unit"
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

$400 for a 15k service, did you get an invoice with line item break down?

Jesus Christ! Ripped off... It's an oil + filter change with a check of all other fluid levels... Should be less than $200.

Volkspower quoted me $350 if I brought my own oil (which I usually do)
My local VW quoted me $380 with oil. May as well just go to VW and get the Gearbox recalibreation at the same time.

Agreed though. a Service is simply an oil and filter change. Its insane to charge anywhere near that. I pay $180 for my Corolla. What is the diffference? The only difference is that the R36 costs more so they figure they should be able to rip us off more as we can afford it.

Wow I was under impression Volkspower were much cheaper than the stealers and was thinking to take my Octavia there!

hmmm interesting - because when I picked up my car from the same dealer and they did the whole introduce the service department thing - the service manager who was on duty definitely said that minor services like the first one are around $200 - if you want to do just an oil and filter change it costs around $75.

Barloworld Moorabbin is my local dealer as well - and my car is due in the next few weeks - will see what I get stung for...

Dealers will always be dearer. I prefer to avoid arguments during the warranty period by only allowing the dealer to work on the car.

Even though the dealers cant refuse a claim under warranty if another licenced motor repairer has worked on the car, I would rather avoid the argument altogether.

My first service (15k) was with Barloworld Mascot and was $260 including a loan car - with fleet discount.

jeez- i didnt ring first and negotiate a price - maybe this is the best idea to avoid surprises and get the best deal.

Yep, you were stung... the most I've paid for a service was about $380 for the 30,000km service, the recent 45,000km was around $270 in Brisbane.. can't remember about the 15,000km, but think it was only about $200.

If you think $450 is expensive. Just wait till your 60k service.

I had my V6 done at Barloworld Glen Waverley just after Christmas for $1500 Thank goodness it was on novated lease and I get to claim back the 10% GST.
I was asked to change my brakes as they have about 20% left. The front rotors need to be changed with the pads. Went to Volksaffair to have the rear changed and was informed the front have another 5months left.
Just waiting for my warranty to expire before I take it to an indie..although the VW dealer is 5mins from my house.
