  • Auspack Electronics bluetooth system

There have been various discussions on this forum about how well various bluetooth systems work, in particular with i-phone.
Does any of you have, or know who has installed the AVC9000-1 from Auspack Electronics in Melbourne?

I'm after a good bluetooth system for my i-phone, that I can operate from the steering wheel and displays in the MFD and that actually works properly. I don't want to spend money on a system and then find out that it doesn't pair half the time as I know that it will frustrate the out of me.

My iPhone pairs successfully with the Skoda / VW system on my RNS510 about 90% of the time. It makes a bell sound when it pairs so I know when it happens. If it doesn't, the quickest fix is actually to restart Bluetooth on the iPhone... For some reason, the iPhone's Bluetooth stack occasionally needs kicking over. No idea why. It was the same with the Fiscon bluetooth that I had, it occasionally wouldn't pair with that either.

At least with the VW BT it makes a noise when it successfully pairs, so now I just keep an ear open for that, and if I don't hear it I restart BT on the phone and all is good again for a week or two.

Nothing is going to be 100% as the iphones BT is crap to be fair.

I have found that my little Blue ant Supertooth is very reliable, moreso than the Ego Talk unit i have installed.

      and only $100

Agree with Steve. The little BT earpieces are much more reliable for pairing and quality, not to mention hundreds of dollars cheaper and usable in more places than just the car.

Rocket what you mean is "in my opinion / experience the little BT earpieces are much more reliable for pairing and quality..." etc.

Personally, I have not found that to be the case for non-integrated systems (earpieces I'll come back to in a minnute). The ones I have used (inc SuperTooth as mentioned above which is not an earpiece but a sunvisor clip device) have been no more reliable at pairing with iPhone than the current hard wired system I use now, you have to remember to charge them, if you need to charge them in-car you end up with a cable stretched across the front of the car, the sound quality is not as good as an integrated system, I have missed calls with the stereo turned up loud, and they look ugly. Not to mention they don't integrate with the car at all.

As to the earpieces - you look like a complete twat wearing one. I won't use them on principle... Although I will concede that the sound quality on them is fine. Same issues as any other BT system with occasionally not pairing with iPhone though.

Thanks for clarifying what I meant mate. You're right...

I don't care what I look like LOL I spend a lot of my day on the phone and in front of a laptop at the same time. Having both hands free is so good! And the benefit of using it in the car as well. What suits me though doesn't suit others. I prefer not having in car BT integration but a lot of poeple do.

I have the blue ant supertooth with voice recognition, which cost $120ish.

The charge holds for ages (I think I have charged it twice since December).

It integrates and allows for voice dialing, voice answer and I would recommend it as an easy solution if integration is not.

Having tried MANY types of handsfree kits, BT units, in-builts, factory systems, etc I can 100% say that there is no other phone kit that works better in every way than the Blue ant Supertooth units.

the Gen 3 systems that have Text-to-Speech are a bit of a gimmick, but the units themselves work brilliantly. Gen 2 units that are fully duplex and very clear can be found brand new from ebay for about $70 delivered.

BTW I have an AVC9000 and my mate has a AVC9000.1 and both of them have terrible phone capability. We both added the Blue ant units to our cars and have never looked back.

                  I love a gimmick.

The text to speech is good from the point of view you have voice dialing, and that the phone will announce who is calling.

I have an iphone and it pairs 95% of the time with the vw basic bluetooth and 100% with the merc integrated bluetooth. My wife uses a very basic nokia and still has the occasional pairing problem in the VW. My feeling is the VW basic bluetooth is a bit fussy and doesnt take much to stop- but it will come good if you turn off the car and the phone BT and turn them back on.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

The VW Basic Bluetooth kit is a Nokia kit with a Parrot BT chip. The VW / Skoda kit is a different bit of kit entirely. As I mentioned, rebooting the BT stack on the iPhone is all I ned to do to pair mine up when it doesn't pair. No need to reboot the car...

The kufatek blue tooth that came with my car works really well with the iphone. It connects quickly each time I enter the car, steering wheel controls work well, and if I try to play mp3s/games/videos on my iphone, it will even pump out sound through my speakers. Awesome.

The only thing that I am a little annoyed about is the time it takes to scroll through my long list of iphone contacts via the mfd. Anyone know any quick short cut (other than programming 6 phone numbers in memory on the RNS510 which I have already done)? It seems easier to dial the numbers in than scroll through the contact list!

Update the firmware on your RNS510 to either 2660 or 2680, connect a mic to the back of the RNS510, and voice control it.

Can the dealer do this? (being a new car, I am really worried about fiddling with the electronics since I have almost 3 years warranty left lol!)

If so, what would they charge?
