  • Advice for Cleaning R36 Rims

    Hi All,

How do you all clean your rims without taking them off? It's driving me crazy. Everytime I clean the car I'm not satisfied as I can't reach all the brake dust. I haven't found anything to get in the small gaps.

Just wondering what everyone else does.

    Thanks in Advance,

The easiest way its to take them off and clean them like that.

Otherwise, carcareproducts sells big brushes that reach between the spokes and with a bit of water and carwashing detergent you should be able to get most of it off.

Some people use the oven cleaner, I saw the results, but would be careful with it on a new car.

Also make sure the clening product you use is pH neutral to maintain the clearcoat over your wheels.

          Or use this one

          http://www.waxit.com.au/proddetail.a...=AP0037&cat=32

It can be bent into shape and gets all the way to the back.

I totoally understand the grief these pads give you weasel. As soon as new year rolls over and the shops are open I am getting some EBC green stuff brake pads for my R36. They are a natural compound so the brake dust is very minimal. Just type in EBC brake pads in google if your interested there are three different types Yellow, Green and Red stuff brake pads.

Also going to get the CAI cold air intake as well.

I 'm using one of these

              & some Durogloss car wash.
I find after cleaning, applying sealant to the wheels will help to minimise the brake dust sticking. I 'm using Optimum Opti-seal & it works great.

I use degreaser on my wheels. So long as you dont leave it on.
Its never really had any long term effect on the paint finish of my wheels

Just spray it on. Leave for 2 minutes then high pressure hose it off. Gets them 95% clean and just hit them with a soapy rag to finish them.

Vossy, I would be very interested to see how the EBC greenstuff pads perform on your car, the brake dust just kills me!! I would like to do something about it but don't want to lose brake performance.!

Let us all know how it goes.

                    thanks

                      Hi Matthew

I used EBC Greenstuff years ago when they first came out. Worst pads I ever used and actually had them fail on me coming down a hill.
They may have changed since then but once bitten...
Be careful when using "dust free" pads. They are ceramic and a completely different compound to what is provided to the maufacturer (metallic) which will can give a different feel and possibly different performance. If the disc is also not made to work with cermaic pads they can excessivly wear your rotors.
