  • Track Days

    Hi all,
Seen a few mentions here from time to time about guys doing track days or circuit training days. I've never had a go but would like to get involved. Anyone got some ides or can help in any way? Need to be NSW.
    Thanks

No need for a CAMS license, and is pretty cheap at around $150 a day which includes a 12 month wakefield license.

Nice track for beginners, apart from the main straight there are no walls to hit.

Yup - the no speed limit days at Wakefield are great fun!

OK sounds like that's it. I guess all the info, what and how to do and dates etc are on that web site?
        How does the R36 go??

Haven't had the R36 around Wakefield yet. Last car I drove around Wakefield was a Formula Vee but have also driven my old VE Clubby around a few laps from time to time.

Check out their website though - all info you need should be there.

There's also the Marulan Driver Training Centre. http://www.mdtc.com.au/ It's quite a short track but it's a lot of fun and quite technical. R36 was a LOT of fun around that one. See also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKBltLbqzlA & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfxDHbuYKuI

Best I've seen around Wakefield is a 1.14. Driver was complaining about Dunlop SP01 tyres, and with some stickier rubber reckons a 1.10 is possible.

You've actually seen that time? Because a V8 Supercar (from the Fujitsu Series) in 2008 was doing 1:07 - 1:08 laps. 1:14 just seems a bit quick to me but I'd be stoked if my car could do that!

It can do it quite consistently, not just a 1 lap wonder.
It can get the power down very quickly, mostly before the apex and you know that kink on the main straight there are no issues going flat through there. The slowest corner is the hair pin before the straight, and the worst corner for understeer is the horse shoe going back up the hill (off camber). Some better tyres will sort that out though.

Nice... Yeah, I definitely want to try Wakefield. But not on the Dunlops. Some semi-comps maybe Hmmm

Hi guys, a friend of mine took his r36 wagon down to wakefield a few months back and he managed a 1:13.5 on street tyres. That was his first track day in it, and first time at wakefield. He said it was almost impossible to get it out of shape although he said he did get it a little loose once. I think he said he was getting around 180km/hr down the straight. Bloody quick for street tyres.
