  • Adaptive Cruise Control - Brakes

Anyone know if when the ACC retards the car because of its proximity to the vehicle in front of you, do the brake lights show.

I am quite impressed with ACC. Would have bought the car without if one had been readily available but now I find it quite a worthwhile addition to cruise control.

Have been experimenting with it and it can retard the vehicle quite quickly if necessary. Feels like brake application, not just throttle/gearbox/engine braking.

Just wondering if following vehicles get to see brake lights.
You know you are getting old when you cancel your order for a 3.6 CC and buy an Icelandic Gray TDI CC instead.

The car definitely slows down to match the speed of the one in front and warns you audibly if it needs your attention to slow down with greater force but I'm not sure if it brakes or if the brake lights come on.

I certainly agree with you though - it's the ONLY option I would have wanted but the ONLY one I couldn't get on the .:R36.

It will apply the brakes if necessary, so yes, the brake lights must illuminate... would be illegal if it didn't.

True... pity the autohold doesnt work like this however... especially if you are stopped in traffic

Completely agree - the autohold should leave the brake lights on.

            Why?

Does that mean when you use the park brake the tail lights should illuminate as well? It's all the autohold is doing.....

LOL. exactly what I was going to say Pana. Hand brake doesn't, and that's all it's doing.

yep, but when you are stopped in traffic and dont have you foot on the brake could be be a problem. I this instance the autohold is not acting as a handbrake.

I yearn for a proper handbrake anyway... full control if and when its needed

Autohold uses the handbrake, sure! But it's not functioning as a handbrake. It's instead of having your foot on the brake - i.e. it's functioning as the brake pedal otherwise would.

WTF are you talking about with having lights come on with the park brake? THAT makes no sense.

Brake lights make your car more visible to people approaching from behind when you're stopped at the lights (or in traffic) and if people don't see brake lights there's a chance they can think you're moving rather than stopped. Worst case is getting rear ended. And having the brake lights on with auto-hold would just increase the safety of the car.

I'm totally with apom on this one.

                    *sigh*

My comment makes perfect sense in the context it was in - maybe you need to re-read it.

If you are that concerned about making your car more visible to cars when stopped - then leave your foot on the brake pedal.

Personally I don't use Autohold - makes the car quite jerky during parking and I don't find it hard to keep my foot on the brake at the lights.

Yeah I do mostly leave my foot on the brake. Auto-hold is off by default for me. If I decide I want to "relax" my foot then I flick it on. And agree about parking - it's NEVER on when I want to park. I have noticed it can also be "laggy" when taking off from the lights after using auto-hold. Like the clutch slips a bit longer just to make sure the brake has been fully released. Can't really confirm that though - it's just what I feel when I use auto-hold.

Best option though, just use launch control! LOL!!!
