  • A way around the SDHC restriction in RCD 510

I figured the RCD & RNS 510 will have the same problems & issues with SDHC cards.

But i actually managed to get a 16gb card working without needing to do any firmware upgrades. I bought a 16gb micro sd card & using a sd card adaptor managed to make a 16gb card work in my rcd without any firmware upgrades. Not sure if it will work for the RNS but it's worth a try.

Hrm, I didn't even know there was supposed to be a problem. I picked up a cheapy Kingston(probably not genuine) 8GB SDHC from dealextreme and it works in my RCD510 no worries.

Maybe the problem lies with the RCD510 not reading NTFS or something, I just formatted the card as FAT32.

RCD510 has no restrictions with SDHC. All of them can read SDHC cards from the factory...

      RNS510 needs the upgrade.

Rocket, if you've got sat nav the only way that unit will recognise high capacity SD cards is with a firmware upgrade.

just got a 32gb sdhc card yesterday to use with my rcd510 & it takes an extraodrdinary long time to load it. Is there a limit to the number of files or folders on the sdhc card? atm it is virtually unusable, it takes a long time just precessing the card data.

I have a 32GB SDHC card in my RNS510, with all the music in subfolders (/artist/album/song.mp3) and it is instant.

HCSD cards don't work in mine - I guess cause i have the satnav unit or something. All the friggin codes you guys throw around like you're VW engineers confuse the hell out of me. LOL!

Hard drive works fine and is plenty of music for me and can transfer new music to the hard drive with normal SD cards so I'm happy. Regardless of whether I have a RNSCQ!#$##!@$CD or whatever the hell the unit is!

                      Rocket - 5 posts up:

                      No codes, no acronyms...

Ian - I have about 18GB of music on the 32GB card, in about 80 or 90 top level folders, about 2000 music files in total.

aha Will try to load it to that level. Perhaps there is a physical restriction to the number of top level folders.

btw got the car...you are right no amplifier there. the stock speakers sound pretty good though...but not good enough
