I am a new new Passat owner!!!

Hi all,

Just put down a deposit on a 125kw TDI DSG Passat Wagon with black heated leather seats in Silver Leaf.

Car is on a slow boat from China - uhmm - Germany

Have asked for a sunroof installation as well - quoted $2,200 so am expecting the Hollandia 700.

Going down to Prestige Sunroofs tomorrow morning to check out the Hollandia 900 and its pricing as an optional upgrade.

Will be putting in a Clarion VX709A (with NP509A) or the NX509A - still have to work out pricing and make a decision..

What window tinting has everyone put in their Passats?

Heaps of time to work things out as I won't get the car until late Dec early Jan.

Have to survive with my lovely Jetta until then.

Avoid metallic on rear cargo windows where the aerial is located. You can get the same colour in ceramic for those windows. Difference not noticeable.
There are different brands. Formula 1 is quite good. Price range ?$300-450. Find who the dealer get to do their tinting and go there as they will usually have good experience in Passats.

Hey Geoff,

Took my .:R36 down to Tint-A-Car in North Melbourne and got the Midnight Express back in Nov '08. Still looking good and feeling better inside today(Def gonna need it!) Was very happy with the service and job done. Paid $295.
Like PassatB6 said, don't put metallic tint film on the rear side windows.

Just talked with the General Manager for Berwick VW dealership.

He said they solely use "The Tint Joint" in Berwick and with the Passat wagons don't put on any metallic tint, use the carbon tint.

I rang The Tint Joint and was quoted $330 for a carbon tint for the whole car - darkest legal tint.

Steve (The Tint Joint) said that because of all the windows in the wagon, from an aesthetic point of view you need to install the same type of tinting on all the windows.

As the antennas are in the rear side windows looks like I can't get away with metallic everywhere else and the carbon on the rear side windows as it would look odd.

Went into Prestige Sunroofs this morning - checked out the Hollandia 700 and 900.

Have changed my sunroof order with the dealer to have them install the 900 as I think it is much better and it is only $200 more than the 700.

Both sunroofs are $95 cheaper than getting the install done direct thru Prestige Sunroofs which is a bonus even though I'm sure the dealers make a few bucks as well out of the sale

There are no cars available (either already in the country or coming on the boat which is due next month) with only leather/heated seats and factory sunroof.

It will be hard enough to wait until the end of next month - couldn't imagine waiting 5 months!!!!

Couldn't agree more!!! I initially wanted a white R36 with NONE of the options (I didn't find out until a couple of months later that white has to have a sunroof), but I "settled" for the Biscay Blue (which I now prefer to white) with factory sunroof and Sat Nav (both options I now LOVE!) because it meant waiting 4 days from decision to in the driveway and not 4 months!!! And not that I cared, got it a bit cheaper too.
