I have taken my R36 back twice in 4 weeks due to poor airconditioning. All they keep saying is that it is low on gas, "we have done a diognostics test on it and cannot find any leaks. "
I still believe that there is something wrong....my 1990 Pulsar had better airconditining!
I'm going to call into the dealer and ask to either drive or sit in another Passat and used the air,to see if there is any difference.

If it's low on gas, it's not going to work properly. The simple test is to feel how cold the air is coming from the vents - it should feel like a fridge door (around 3 degrees).
Be careful getting it regassed - I had an air-con service done on a Barina a few years ago, which wound up blowing up the evaporator.. $150 on a service since it hadn't been checked in a few years, $900 on new bits within 3 weeks..

I spent 6 weeks going around Europe last year between June and August, in Malta, Italy, France and the UK. Average daily temps were well into the 30s, and according to the Fiat we hired, coming out of Reggio Calabria northbound at the top of a 1200m high mountain, the temperature was 42...
Agreed, it's not Germany, but it's not too far away.. less than the distance between Melbourne and Brisbane.

Well did you get it regassed?? I've also heard rumours that some come low on gas from the start. But as I said in a previous post, very few complaints from the US which is a bit strange. Maybe this is a RHD phenomenon.
Willing to bet NO-ONE here has had a regas!

My A/C compressor was replaced after lunching itself, new compressor & re-gas, and still poor.

Funny today in Melb (33 according to the outside temp in the car reading) I had left the car in the sun for around 3 hours (11am - 2pm) so overhead sun and all. Car was hot when we jumped in but cooled down really quick even set at 20 (mrs was turning up the temp was top cold for her)
Japan gets very hot. Not just on odd occasions either. Tokyo avg is 30 - 31 in summer, and most of the major cities average over 30, some 32 - 33. To compare, Brisbane's summer averages are 29...
Still think Japan doesn't get hot?
Isn't this interweb thingy great? Sharing and learning in a friendly and accommodating environment ! Thanks.
To go back off-topic, the highest recorded temp in Germany is a tad over 40, the lowest around -46.
From personal experience, "heat" (say around 30) is rather oppressive (tending towards muggy), different to where you are, swallowtail. Not nice.
Anyway, it still appears that VAG aircons are, as experienced by some, not as good as those from "other manufacturers". I simply find that weird considering that we're looking at global markets, and production facilities all over the world.

Guys n Gals, not sure if this is an issue but i noticed my aircon actually switching on and off and therefore not getting cool and it turned out to be the accessory fan not working.
Not saying this is an issue but if your getting it checked out make sure its actually working. The bad thing was at the diagnostics in the dealer it showed it was actaully cutting in an working but the guy didnt believe it so physically checked and found the fan wasn't working.
They replaced the fan and since then the air has been good however its does have to run at 19-20 degrees
For the people on here with a wagon that believe their aircon isn't working the best, it may help to keep the luggage cover closed . You shouldn't have to do that, but at least it will help as you reduce the air volume in the cabin significantly and the aircon is not trying to cool down your luggage compartiment. It might just make it work that little bit better on hot days.
My previous car had a panoramic sunroof (complete glass roof) and that really made the aircon struggle. Something to conside for people looking at this option on the CC, I would not get a glass roof again for that reason!
