Yes it is, but if it uses the Kufatec controller then I'm not interested, as it is flaky... I've asked them.

I am also pricing getting the bits to retro-fit the proper VW OEM solution.

To be honest, the camera itself is not the main issue... it's the controller / cabling / 12V circuit / RNS510 that are the tricky bits.

You can get the T'reg style, it's cheaper, but I'm still working out what impact that has on prices, and other aspects of the install.

Kufatec sell a part OEM / part Kufatec reverse camera system. I'd be interested to know the details if they are now doing a fully OEM package. It's the Kufatec RVC interface / controller that is buggy.

And Rocket, no you are wrong - you can still get optical parking sensors display with the OEM reverse cameras - it can be overlaid on the camera picture. Something like this:

i recently purchased a New X5 and the reverse camera and the optical sensors come up on a split screen and then you have the choice to toggle between both.....then again i use the sensors more than the camera..

when you had the kufatec camera installed in your car what made it flaky???

Maverick had it. It's a known problem with them - they don't always activate when you select reverse gear.

From what I can make out, this is the story -

Reverse camera in the Golf is a relatively simple one. It connects to the reverse lights, and when you engage reverse it activates, and the signal is submitted directly to the RNS510, which detects the input (having been coded that it has a RVC Low (no controller) installed). Works well, and can be set up using EITHER the combined badge / camera that opens on reversing, OR just with the camera on its own.

Passat CC and Passat station wagon reverse camera is a higher-tech one that alters lines on the screen based on your steering wheel position. I.e. it shows you where the car will go. This requires an interface or controller. That controller needs to be CAN BUS aware, so it knows the steering wheel position.

Kufatec offer a solution for the Passat that uses their own controller, but it has some issues. They also offer a CC package that I think may be the whole box and dice... I have sent them an email asking what is included in it.

I believe (although not yet confirmed) that you can install the less sophisticated Golf solution into a Passat with no more difficulty than into a Golf... when i get more info I will post up here.

what kind of delivery times are you expecting from VW ive been told December 1....at the earliest with regards to fitting, i have a fair bit of stereo gear going into the car so my installer is doing the retrofits of the kufertec stuff...you in sydney?

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. My wagon has landed in Melbourne yesterday, but hadn't gone over to Patricks from the shipping line when the dealer checked yesterday afternoon. I ordered on June 30th, but now have to wait for the wagon to go to Mildura, go through dealer delivery and get the last bit of tinting done, have a wheel alignment (not yet arranged, but sounds a great idea from another recent post) and then travel down to me in Adelaide for handover. All a bit convoluted really, but the guys in Mildura could do the best price and have been very god to deal with so far.
BTW I like the wheels for what that's worth but I reckon I'll look for something in charcoal when the time comes

I too think charcoal wheels are the goods! I'm hoping santa will be thinking I've been a good boy this year.

the guys in Mildura could do the best price and have been very god to deal with so far.

I found that when I bought mum her GTI four years ago - the Mildura guys offered the best price before any negotiating. Unfortunately they couldn't get a GTI for several months, and suggested the 2.0T Jetta instead... no thanks! They were great to talk with and it's a pity they didn't have the allocation.

Don't wait for the car to come here. Fly to Mildura and pick it up. The flights are cheap (I think they can be as low as about $90 one way with Sharp Airlines), and the drive home is fun if avoid the main highway... you get to use a ferry at Walker Flat

Speaking of charcoal wheels... I was looking at a set of these (by Lenso) in 19x8.5 until I found out they don't make a stud pattern for the R36.



Anyone know of anything similar? I like the agressiveness about them and I reckon they'd make the R36 look a lot more "mean" than it is.

Alternatively, I could get any wheel in any colour that fits, and is a similar style obviously, and then get them painted along with the front grill silver area to match.

Thoughts?

They look pretty good.

Might help if you look under the Passat CC as well as i think it has more options.
Or vary the years a little.
