R36 Suspension

Just wanted some info from all the R36 owners here.

Anyone feels that their stock suspension is a little harsh on our Australian roads? Well, i'm from Melbourne and i hate to say, driving in the CBD over those tram tracks are a pain.

Anyone can give me their feedback on the feel of their suspension?

R36 in Melbourne too. Frankly, I'm happy with the firm ride around town. Maybe it depends a bit on what you are using as a harshness benchmark. The tram track crossings do help to highlight the rattles tho.

The "short travel" bump handling and ride is poor, but to me is made up for by brilliant poise and control. My Mazda (6 MPS) had much better bump handling, with a similar overall stiffness, but was not as poised at higher speeds.

Well, i used to drive a mitsubishi evo 9. I thought a change to the R36 means nice, soft ride around town but i was proven otherwise!

Was actually thinking of changing the suspension to something with softer spring rates. Anyone here changed their R36 suspension?

I like it hard! LOL!!!

OK, seriously... It is a little "jiggly" for some people and a lot of people don't like it. But I love it. It feels confident on all surfaces I think. I wouldn't soften it up at all.

Actually, it was the suspension that (mostly) made me change from initially wanting the CC... The CC, even in Sport mode, was too soft and felt less precise.

I find that this is a trait of most Jap cars......they seem to loose that poise as the speeds increases anything beyond 120-140.

I personally quite like the firmness as it returns the handling too. But I can understand that it may start to get annoying if you have tram lines to cross often.

There's plenty of cities in Europe with tram tracks, many more than Australia.. and lots still have cobbled streets...

I enjoyed the hard ride i must say. I have driven my sisters B spec Liberty GT which i was told was going to be horrible but it was not as hard as the R36.

Re the R36 Having broken one rim I can vouch for the toughness of NSW roads. I did it when the car was 4 weeks old too -

Ouch! You must have hit a deep pot hole didn't you? The roads in Melb have little uneven bumps.

Sometimes when you turn upwards to a gentle slope, you can even hear the entire chassis flexing. I reckon the chassis of the R36 is tight as. Anyone wanna share some light with regards to the chassis?

Yep - going up driveways on an angle, I can hear the doors rub against the frames.

In terms of the suspension, love it. Coming from a lowered WRX, the R36 is brilliant for cruising, and keeps it flat in spirited driving. It is the sports model after all so you gotta expect the suspension to not be tuned for comfort.
