I followed it on the tracking sites from Southampton to Le Havre then saw it moor up in the Channel. It then headed south west of France for South Africa then disappeared off the tracking sites

Any ideas ?
yep. stop worrying about it. you can't do anything to speed it up .
Same thing happened with the Otello on the http://aprs.fi tracking site. It's only become visible again in the last day, having stalled between Southampton and Santander for a few weeks. I was off from work with swine flu for a few days and obsessively watched it go from Bremerhaven (?) to Zeebrugge and then Southampton. When there were no updates for a few days I was convinced it had sunk or (of course) been captured by Somali pirates. I could just imagine them driving happily through the streets of Mogadishu in my new wagon, enjoying the heated seats....
The aprs site isn't consistent in its update frequency. I tracked the Glorious Leader recently, and between Africa and Australia, the ship location did not update for over a week. After it reached Australian waters though, it updated almost daily.
