I wouldn't be going near the Falken 452s. I had them on my R34 skyline and let's say they become wild in the wet.

      Maybe car dependant?

I wouldn't fit FK452 myself because I don't like directionals but I have 2 mates that love them. Both are hard chargers. Vehicles are Gen4 Liberty - GT & 3.0R. Maybe FK452 are suited to AWD chassis rather than RWD?

I had em on the VE Clubsport R8 (the 452s) and they were FANTASTIC!!! But 275 rears might have had something to do with it too...

Yeah that's what i think too. The width of the tyres. I had 18s and 265s at the rear. Back in those days years ago, i was turning right at the junction, lost the car a bit and had abit of 'Melbourne Drift' moment.

The Poms on the Briskoda forum seem pretty keen on 452s for (fwd) Octavias, the other tyre they recommend a lot is the Vredstein Ultra Sessantra (sp ? ). And it is often a bit wet there.

And then they ruin their credibility by saying the Toyo T1R are good too

Compared to what? Bridgestone RE92 or Goodyear Supersteel?

Sorry, I know too many people that have used T1-R and think they are poo. I'll admit I've never used them myself but I trust these guys judgement and ability to know a good tyre from a bad tyre.

Again, maybe they don't suit some cars? MX5 & DC2R - both lightweights.

It's a little unfair passing judgement without personal experience, IMO.

I know there are better and more expensive tyres than the Toyos, though I don't think the set on my 911 are poo...

Why? Do you only express an opinion on things you have actually experienced?
Lets say you had never been to India and somebody started asking about whether you should drink tap water or bottled water if you were visiting Mumbai. Would you not venture an opinion that bottled water would be safer based on information you had gleaned from others?

Both my mates that have had them are quick drivers & I know them (as drivers) and their cars well. In both cases they complained that the T1-R wasn't consistent, progressive or predictable. Going through a corner at 80kmh would be fine & the next time through it would slide at 70kmh - that's fine if you can feel it coming but it was like flicking a switch. They just didn't telegraph what they were going to do.

As I said, both cars were lightweights, so maybe that's the problem. From my experience with Porsche, they steer off the rear wheels & they get a lot of heat into the rear rubber. Maybe T1-R need lots of heat to perform properly/progressively/consistently? In an AWD chassis, generally they are quite benign on tyres.

That statement could be (mis)interpreted in many ways !!!!!

I replaced the 18" Pirelli's on my 3.2 4motion Passat about 6 months ago, with GT radials (remember the Allan Moffat advert). for same reasons..
OEM wasnt as good as expected and replacement cost was hefty.
These "GT" tyres have a "self energising" carcass design which reacts to steering input and actualy increases turn in.
All very good for fun times on twisty wet alpine roads.
But sadly the amount of road noise they generate is too much for me and I plan to replace them...
Considering the Yokohama V550 dB-decibel at about $380 a corner, I can live with the price as long as they are quiet.

Has any-one noticed that tyre retailers always try to sell you the tyres they have in stock ??? Or that cheap "big brand" tyres are oftentimes superceeded versions.
Do your own research.. don't trust the grub behind the counter.

                              Update

I have had the Potenza Adrenaline tyres on the front now for about 4 weeks, and so far am very happy.

Quiet, responsive, and a lit cheaper than the Pirellis or Contis were @ just $236 per corner.

BTW the front alignment was totally shot - obviously after hitting that nice WA pothole on Guildford Rd on a rainy night I should have had an alignment check... It would have shaken my fillings out if I had any, so maybe that should have alerted me to go do a preventative alignment check. I will next time.

So in this case the dealer was on the $ again... scalloping of the tyres due to poor toe caused the bearing/cv-style noise from the front end.

                              A learning experience.

                                Hey Guys,

Anyone tried the Pirelli P-Zero's? Have just damaged a tyre with a cut to the side wall and need to replace it. The Factory Bridgestone was quoted at
                                $400+
The tyre shop offered the Pirelli P-Zero for just under $200 bucks

The factory tyres really didn't impress me much in the wet when taking off from the lights and as far as wear goes, I would be lucky to get 30,000km out of them.

Car it the standard 125kw TDi.

                                Cheers
