  • R36 Oil

    Hey all,

Our R36 has come up with the low oil level warning. Upon checking it the oil level is right on min so I guess it has used up a bit of oil in it's first 10,000kms.

    Anyone else had this?

Also - the manual is useless so can anyone tell me what weight oil I should get to top the engine back up? (The manual for the R36 under oil says "information not available at the time of publication. aka - useless).

    Cheers

VW 504.00 specs oil and you can't go wrong. Must be VW approved.
Penrite Enviro 5W30 from any good auto parts store.

There's a list of suitable oils here

As Transporter said any 504.00/507.00 oil is suitable. Some dealers will top it up free of charge for you.

        Snowman,
Yep, like Maverick said, some of the dealers will top up for free. Sth Yarra did for mine. Otherwise follow the above info for choosing the correct oil.

        Cheers,
        Jayse.

          Thanks guys.

Am heading up to the snow shortly so don't really have time to go past the dealer but good to know (and good to know it's not unusual). I'll pick up some Castrol Edge 5W30 (it's what I use in the racecar so I'm comfortable with it) before I go.

          Cheers

504.00/507.00 supersedes 502.00 and it is permissible to use this as a replacement.

Some dealers only carry one oil now in their service department which is a 504.00/507.00 as this covers all vehicles other than two specific models for a short period.

Also 504.00/507.00 oils are all full synthetic whereas 502.00 has a mixture, some are full and some are semi.

                Reference please...???

My dealer only uses Castrol Edge 5W30 for the 220kw V6 engine (as found in the R36 and CC).

List of oils (from major brands) I've found that meet the VW 501.01 or VW 502.00 specification as per the owner's manual:

                  Valvoline
                  SynPower 0W-40
                  SynPower 5W-30
                  SynPower 5W-40
                  SynPower MXL 0W-30
                  SynPower MXL 5W-30

                  Castrol
Edge Sport 5W30 (my VW dealer uses this exclusively and it's in my car currently)

                  Mobil
                  Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30
                  Mobil 1 0W-40

                  Shell
                  Shell Helix Ultra Racing 10W-60

                  Fuchs
                  Titan Supersyn SAE 5W-40
