  • Fuel Costs

I have just done my tax and it has cost me $2432 in Diesel for the year. Compared to the wife's BMW which is 2lt petrol and onlt 110kW I saved 20% on her bill of $3K for very similar mileage...

We did our fuel, we have only had the R36 since Feb but have had the caddy for the whole year, both do similar km per year, for the 5 months we have had the R36 it has used the same $$ worth of fuel as the caddy has for 12 mths....
Caddy averages 6.8l/100Km, R36 Averages 11.8l/100km factoring in the more expensive cost of 98 Octane go juice and there you go.....

        OK, for my car:

        Collected 23/09/08.
To June 30 (last fill on June 29): 1,632.72l, 25,525km, average of 6.4l/100km. Total cost $2099.09 at that stage, cost at the pump and not taking into account the 1.2-1.4c/l saving through my lease company, which would save about $23 for the year..

To date, it's clocked up: 1,886.34l, 29,631km, average of 6.37l/100km, total cost $2,407.15.

Best tank consumption: 5.7l/100km (also the longest distance, 1,163km).
Worst consumption: 7.29l/100km (860km), which included about 350km of towing a boat.

Your average CPL is about 10c better than mine and your average milage is 1l/100km better too

Are the prices excl GST or inc GST?

Not quite sure how he does it, either .

            Anyway, lifetime totals:

            Collected 11 Jan 08.
Total kms as of today: 39,950.
            Total l diesel purchased: 2,728 l
            Total fuel cost: $3,757
            Cost per km: 9.4 cent
Best: 5.46 l/100 km which coincides with longest distance, 1,257 km
            Worst: 8.3 l/100 km
            Average: 6.83 l/100 km

Going back, I noticed that the highest ever paid was 184.9/l back in early July 2008. Still, only 13.8 cent/km.

Interesting to see the fuel economy trend. Seems to be getting slightly better as time goes on.

Me neither with a long term average of 7.38lt/100km (mostly city driving) I cant get any better it seems but the long term average is trending down.. I was at arounf 7.45 and now 7.38 lt/100km. This is not a short term change either

Ummm.. dunno how that works.. supposedly the north west of Melbourne has the highest fuel prices in the city.. but when I collected the car diesel was running at around $1.60/l, now it's around $1.20/l.. the car is budgeted on $1.80/l. I have noticed though that the BPs I fill up at most of the time (near Calder Park) are usually 2-3 c/l cheaper than some other servos.. maybe due to the trucks filling up there. The other place I normally fill up at is the Mobil opposite the refinery in Altona, but the price there is usually higher than anywhere else (go figure).

I get an advantage that most of my starting driving is highway - 5 out of 6 roads out of my place are 100 or 110km/h.. but then I've also been stuck in city peak hour, taken 45 minutes to go from Elizabeth St to Citylink up Little Collins St, shown about 18l/100km for that trip, etc, etc....

Prices are including GST, based on the fuel receipts at the time, which are on the same c/l cost as the pump display, the discount is taken off through the lease company side of things.

If anyone's interested, I can give details on every tank I've used.

Good plan. All this 5.something talk makes me jealous... although my average which after 3000km is 10.9l/100km isn't too bad I don't think for the R36. It's trending down, so I think I'm probably averaging about 10.6 or so. Should improve as it loosens up more too. It's better than the 4cyl 2.3L Mazda turbo I had before!

                      Jealous?

I was under the impression (maybe mistakenly) that you R36 guys have all the fun!

It's "us" diesel boys who should be jealous.

Anyway, I think we can have our cake and eat it as well, the 0-100 time is not a true representation of how enjoyable all this torque is.

                      ENJOY.

LOL... we have plenty of fun that is true, but as you say you guys don't miss out!

Based on 25,000 kms a yr, you guys in the diesels would be saving about $1200 - $1500 a year over us petrol guzzlers (based on my 10.6 to 6.6).

Yep, I've surprised more than one Falcodore driver by not only keeping up, but getting in front of them from the lights.. and still not been going flat out.. I'm not exactly a featherweight on the throttle..

6.6? a little more i would suggest. its certainly possible to achieve this, but the passat is so much fun to drive its usually about 8-9 around town.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

OK... My drive home from work just now averaged 8.9L/100km. That's 25km, about 17 highway and 8 city streets. And I wasn't driving like a granny either.
