  • 2006 Passat V6 4-Motion

    Hi All,
Shopping for a Passat so have been reading up on your experiences.
    Whilst i can't stretch as far as a R36
    I am interested in the right '06 V6 4-motion.
Would love any feedback you may be able to offer.
Any positives and negatives are welcome of course.
Anything specific i might need to look for would be helpful too.
    Cheers VW fans

All the usual things about buying second hand apply really.

The only downside in European is the price of repairs / parts in the non warranty period. I have long suspected that these companies make more from the extended life of the car than the warranted period.

I don't know of any particular weak points on the Passat, except the DSG can play up and the 4 motion needs service/rebuilds after so many kms; so a good service logbook is valuable (as it is always).

I'm sure the more experienced owners can chime in, although the forum seems to have died lately.

No known issues, the 3.2 is still a lovely motor. If the R36 wasn't around I would have bought the Highline 3.2 without doubt.

Usual second hand things, check logbook, beware of lots of modifications, drive the car.

They sell heaps of these cars around the world, so do a google search of the entire web, and you will find plenty of info.

      Good Luck
Confirmed Global Warming Sceptic. No Longer a VW Owner -Loving my new 2011 Range Rover Sport - bought as VW unable to provide info on the new Toureg despite it being released overseas 12 mths ago. 2008 R36 Wagon, 2006 GTI and 2004 R32 - Gone. Sorry VW, you make great cars but until you improve your customers' experiences you will lose customers

I recently picked up an '06 V6 4-motion wagon and am very happy with it. If you can be patient good deals do come up, mine has loads of options and only 10,000km on it. While they may not be as sexy as the R36 they are a satisfying drive and fantastic value for money.

I'm particularly impressed by the brakes and the stability at speed, it just doesn't budge when road trains go by, no matter how bad the road. Getting out of the way of numbnuts on wet roads is impressive too, no wheelspin just a surprisingly rapid departure.

I can't really tell you of anything specific to watch out for, mine has been trouble free other than a dead horn when I picked it up. The dsg had a habit of selecting too low a gear in very slow corners, I did the reset procedure (IIRC hold the throttle down for 10 sec and then switch on the ignition, don't quote me tho) and it's been fine since.

          Good luck!
