Head Gasket Issues?

Are there any known head gasket issues with the 147kw turbo petrol motor in the passat/gti etc?

My 2 year old passat needs a litre or two of oil between services and today I noticed milky gunk on the oil filler cap. This makes me think there might be a head gasket issue.

Lets not jump to conclusions here.

Take it to your nearest dealer, explain your situation, and give them as much information as you can. Things like how you drive, how far your trips usually are, etc, will greatly assist them in getting to the root of the problem.

1L of oil per 15,000klms is acceptable, however not all engines are the same. Some drink more, others will consume barely any at all. A lot of this comes down to how the car was treated in the first few thousand kilometers from new, during the whole running-in process.

As for the milky residue, it could simply just be condensation.

As far as I'm aware, there are no head gasket issues with these engines.

make sure the engine gets some long drives, not just short city runs. most likely find it is just condensation

Its done 33000 and mainly country miles - sydney to canberra (many times), sydney to melb, sydney to bris, syd to dubbo ... the car has had an easy life.

Was very gentle with it during the first 1000km and had an oil change at 6000. I think a first service at 15000 for a turbo car is crazy - maybe fleet manager like it, but you have got to change oil early in the cars life.

Would be interested if other owners see a milky deposit under the oil filler cap also.

As previously mentioned, it could be just condensation.

To be honest, I don't recall seeing any VW that I've serviced to have milkshake on the underside of the oil filler cap. A bit of oil sludge, but that's all. Used to see it alot on Camrys, among others but no VWs so far.
