  • MY10 R36 upgrades - No news yet!

Hmmm, seems to be very quiet on the home front for what is going to be the minor or major changes for 2010.

This might tend to suggest that nothing is to change for Aus. I suppose this could be both good and bad.

Well I hope that there are a few worthwhile changes to reward us for the wait... Mine will be built next month in the next scheduled run for Australia...

The thing that I would be interested in, is if the Advanced or Adaptive Cruise Control will be available.

That's the only other option I would have liked from the Passat CC that I compared the R36 to.

Hope we find out soon so I can get onto the dealer and ask them to put ACC on the options if it becomes available.

EDIT: There was a photo of a supposed facelifted Passat 2010 model... don't know if there would be any changes to the shape really. That would be the most unlikely. I think the car they are showing here was probably an early concept of the CC (notice the wheels)... but it does have a family resemblance to the Golf 6 - see the VW symbol going into the bonnet sheet metal and the lights... can't say for sure...

ACC won't be an option because of the front end setup of the R36. It's definitely an option I would have ticked though!

Keep in mind that this is just Comgen for what is probably the MY11 model. I am assuming the MY10 model will be the same as now with the new steering wheel and HVA controls that are now used in the GOLF and Passat CC (Bets anyone??)

If thats true that there is no V6 then the R36 will be out of commission for a while. (and the highline and CC)

Its not unusual however, when a new module comes along to hold back the performance models initially.

Expected to debut in late 2011 as a 2012 model.... *snip* One year after the launch of the Passat sedan will be the station wagon. This will be followed closely by a new high-performance model to replace the current R36.
That's good news for me! No new R36 until early 2013. Will be ready to replace mine by then.

I'll also consider one in 2013-2014 when it might appear here My R36 should be about 4 years old and due for an upgrade by then.

Agreed!!! But it will be an RS6 for me next time i reckon. Already test drove a B8 V10 one. but happy with R36 atm, until the bug calls again

Hmmmm Good point... I still drool over the S5 too. Depends on my situation at the time a bit. And again, if VW stay as good value for money as they are now (i.e. the best value for money German) I may have to think with my head! lol

From that article above it seems like they are going a bit upmarket with the Passat such that they want buyers of the 3 series and the A4 to 'mention it in the same breath'. That there'll be more technological innovations in it etc.

What I think we'll see is more technology filtering down from the Phaeton into the Passat.

The other makers can't afford to put in too much things into their lower ranges due to product differentiation becoming more problematic if you offer things in your lower series that are reserved for the top of the range vehicles.

VW doesn't have a top end to threaten in this way. The Passat is as close to the top as it gets in our market for instance and I think that we'll see more nice things in the next Passat.

I too could have afforded the other marques cars this time, but the R36 was just such outstanding value that I could not think with other than my head. I think it will be the same next time.

Maybe I'm noticing them more, but VW have certainly increased on the roads lately. I think they must be pleased.

Here's a prediction - daytime LED running lights like seen on Audis.
