Tis a good discount... but I suggest that you leave off the crap "cheap" Bluetooth and get something like the Fiscon unit - fully integrates with RNS510 sat nav unit and MFD for about 800 - 900 fitted.

What price do you have to be under to not pay LCT?

I thought it was only on the base price and not on any options fitted? or is it fixed at the RRP and the discount you get makes no difference?

Got to love the Governments cut, just short of $11,400. and the stamp duty in WA is 6% flat.

The LCT threshold for 2008–09 is $57180. Anything in the GST inclusive price of the car including added options attracts LCT. If you get a discount it will reduce the amount of the car over 57180 that attracts LCT.

But if you're smart, get the dealer to itemise and pay for the optional extra seperately. That way you only pay the Kruddy car tax (LCT) on the price of the car.

I also wouldn't install the "cheap" (by cheap I mean quality because the price is STUPID!) bluetooth option.

I just read a website which explains how it all works. If anyone is interested.

                http://www.strattonfinance.com.au/ca...explained.aspx

Damm I can see why you get the options taken out, makes then expensive when you add another 33% plus 10% GST. Is that not a tax on a tax.

And how is $57180 an expensive car, what a joke. If only VW could get the Fuel consumption below 7l/100 for the R36.

So are Dealers interested in removing options ? - I can see for Dealer fittted this would be very easy. Time for the window tint, mats and Bluetooth to go. Add then install after delivery and save the LCT. The sunroof would be very hard to get but the satnav is very easy to fit later.

nope... not a tax on tax... the gst is deducted for the calculation of LCT.
the amount that applies to LCT is divided by 1.1 first (GST component) then taxed at 33%.

                  but yes what a pita.
there used to be a way to cut the price of the car under the LCT amount then just bump up the cost of the other post tax items to level out the cost of the car without paying LCT.. but think they have fixed that.

I was thinking you were wrong but no you are quite right.

But the $57,180 is really only $51,981 worth of car before you pay LCT.

Now I have a target to hit! on a $65K car I think very little chance.

Is the starting price of $59K the norm for the R36?

I have now accepted that I will have to pay LCT

The RRP of the R36 is $64,990 including LCT.

yep, cough it up like the rest of us!

Really, if you have an ABN and can buy it under your own name then you get the GST back in the next QTR on your BAS... Theres nearly 6K. At the same time you use the GOVT 50% tax rebate and the deal gets very very good indeed

Yep ... the 50% tax factor is having a huge impact on car sales atm & couldn't come at a better time for me as my current lease just expired.

If you are a small biz under 2mill then think about upgrading ur motor (or plasma )

                          2 useful links here:

                          http://www.treasurer.gov.au/DisplayD...ear=&DocType=0

                          http://www.ato.gov.au/businesses/con...&mfp=&st=&cy=1

It seems you can claim 50% tax rebate in ur biz on June 30 2010 - say 70k car - 35k of ur company tax for this financial year.

                          Plus u get normal depreciation

Plus u get the GST back

                          What u waiting for

Which makes me wonder .... should I add Dynaudio while I have the chance of gaining from the govt's largesse ????

A wealthy man once advised me that when getting a new car get it loaded to the max as it helped on the resale but I am not sure I agree with that theory

Optioning Dynaudio is a no-brainer really if your spending this much money.

When compared to blue tooth, Dynaudio looks cheap in comparison to what people are prepared to pay to make a hands free telephone call!

                              Just do it!
