  • iphone in Passat does not work

I bought the ipod adapter cable option and while it works just fine with the ipod, when the missus plugged in her iphone, it did not charge and displayed an error - unsupported device or some such..

any one here got their iphone working via the ipod cable?

i have the AVC9000 with ipod cable in my jetta. missus' iphone will connect with it but whilst connected it warns you that you cant use it as a phone... its like an aeroplane mode or something ???? so you can still use the ipod part but not the phone whilst in planes.

when i enquired with vw dealership about the oem ipod adaptor the guy could not tell me if it worked with the iphone or not.

I have an iPhone 3G, works in my Passat - pops up a message asking if I want to go to airplane mode, but that's normal. I just say no, and it's fine. Still works as a phone at the same time, pauses music if a call comes in. Full integration with stereo, head unit selection of artists and songs, etc. I use the VW MDI interface though, which is heaps better than the older iPod adapter. Surprised they sold you the iPod adapter, I thought they were doing away with that.

ROFL.... um, doesnt that defeat the purpose of having the music and phone in one device?

Got to love those apple products and the constant changing of the damm adater plug. At home I have two kids one with a G1 itouch and the other with the G2 version. Docking stations only work (fully ie charge and play) with G1. Will play G2 music but goes flat.

Can't work out why these devices have such a following because you have to keep spending. But if it works then it is easy, just need to wait for MY10 and hopefully they have G2 adapter plugs.

I have used A2DP BT audio just to see what it is like - the sound quality is crap...

It comes up with the unsupported device error with the MDI too, but still works and charges.

BTW you can actually get a small adapter (google Cablejive) that will convert the old style cable to charge the new ones. In my old Mazda I had an iPod adapter into one of these, then a cable into a Brodit phone mount on the dash, so when I plugged the iPhone in it charged, worked for music through the iPod adapter and worked as a phone through a Parrot Bluetooth system.

You still get the message, but just click no to going into airplane mode and it works fine anyway.
