  • B6 headlight aim

Here's a tip.. after thinking (like a few others) that the headlights were pretty weak, especially on low beam with no street lights, I asked the dealer today if they could adjust the aim while it was serviced.

They did, and bumped them up, so that the old "high aim" mark is now about halfway through the range. I've just driven home, and what a difference it's made.. they probably went a smidge too far, and it could do with being dialled back, but basically I now have to set the headlights at about "2.5" when empty so as not to be aimed too high.. I'll probably ask if there's an adjustment to bring them back down slightly, so I can set them empty mark at "0", but otherwise it's all good.

Around my place, there's quite a few country roads with no streetlights, and just the aim adjustment solves a lot of the issues I had, by giving greater spread in front of the car without really taking anything away from the sides.

the R36 does not get adjustment inside as they are "self adjusting Xenons" I suspect mine are set too low as at night they don't have great distance on low beam, and when on high beam they don't light up very high...

Yeah, standard Passat headlight aim. Euro cars have to have adjustable aim from inside the car, but not all those that come to Australia have it.

The issue I had wasn't with the intesity of the lights, it was to do with the aim. Basically the range they could go through was from too low to even lower - now it's probably high and too high, but much better than they were.

Caddyman, getting yours adjusted shouldn't be a problem, just ask the dealer next time it's in for a service.
