    Hey vwevo,

IIRC, the Bolle tint has a green tinge to it and i think the Formula 1 wasn't dark enough so thats why i went with the Midnight Express.

Just make sure the one they do use is a non metallic tint (especially if you got the wagon as the aerials are in the 2 back side windows of the cargo bay)

This is the one i went to:
    MELBOURNE CITY
    Cnr Arden & Curzon Streets
    NORTH MELBOURNE VIC 3051
    Phone: 13 TINT (that is 13 84 6

    Cheers,

    Jayse.

        Two good points with Bennobee:

        1) If you can get them to chuck it in for free as part of a new car purchase, then you're laughing (and we all know there are deals to be had out there now)

        2) If Volkswagen do the tint* then you're safe in knowing they should look after the car when they do the tint part.

        Two not so good points:

1)If you can't get them to chuck it in for free, it can be an expensive option (i must admit, i didn't look into it at VW cos i thought it would be a rip off, like paint protection etc, so i don't know the official price on VW tinting)

        2) *Most often than not, dealers send the car out to a tint shop around the corner/close by to do it and charge you more than they would. At least if anything is wrong, VW has to rectify it.

        3) If you, say want it a lil darker than legal, i can imagine VW wouldn't accomodate that...i might be wrong though.

        Cheers,
        Jayse.

I have no problems with the metalic tint in mine. The window tinter showed me the antennas for both the radio and the SatNav. They're under the rear window trim liner across the top the roof. Not actually in any of the glass or anwhere that metalic tint is going to affect them. I can't imagine the antennas in the wagon are a different unit but they may be located elsewhere.... Thing is, they're not flat so you couldn't tint over them, not even accidentally while blindfolded!

Thanks for that, I have been wondering where the antenna was for the Sat Nav. So your saying that it is placed on the rear parcel shelf (sedan) under the trimmed shelf itself. That is good to know!
Do they need to remove the rear parcel shelf and the 3rd brake light when they tint the rear window?

Nope not the parcel shelf - back of the cabin interior roof, under the trim lining panel that goes across the roof to cover the centre high mount brake light. That trim panel doesn't HAVE to come off to tint the windows but it will be a much nicer looking job if it does. And once it's off the brake like light unplugs and unclips very easily. Be careful removeing that trim lining though. The steel clips are only holding onto plastic and the plastic can easily break. Also, when putting it back on the make sure all the steel clips are set properly on the trim lining and not still stuck in the roof parts of the brackets. If it's not put back properly it's a VERY annoying vibration when driving.

To those that had their tints done without taking the door trim off, how did the tinter get the tint under the door trim without getting it dirty?

My tinter took the door trims and the rear brake light (sedan) off to do the tints. I didn't have a problem with this as he's done all my previous cars like this and been doing for nearly 30 years.
After watching him do it though, I didn't think it was possible to do a proper job without taking the trim off.

Of course it's possible to do a proper job without taking the trims off. A lot of lubrication, the right tools and a few weeks to really dry properly (in Canberra's cold weather) is all that's needed.

How did they push the tint down inside the door to do the full pane? Did it drag against the fury rubber bits?

How do they check there are no bubbles under the trim which get bigger over time expanding to above the trim?

How about you speak to a tinter that knows how to do it with door trims on? I'm not a tinter but the same guy's been doing my tinting since 1998 and I'venever had any issues with any of my car's tinting (all 8 of them!).

Correct I got it as part of the deal but I know they charged around 500 bucks to the average joe who walked in off the street and wanted to pay full rip off retail. I figured its now VW's problem if something happens and I throw them the keys say fix it and get a oan car to thrash (oppps I mean drive ).

I asked for darkest tint possible and i got darkest legal. If you knew the sales guy well enough I am sure he would be willing to help you on going a little darker.

I'm asking you as a consumer who watched.

All tinters know how to tint without taking the trim off, it's the first thing that an apprentice that does new cars at your local dealership learns. They charge the dealer $40 - $50 a car (which the dealer marks up insanly) and their goal is to get through as many cars in as little time as possible. Trim takes time to take off, put back on and of course the liability incase they damage it will come out of their pocket. Any tinter that doesn't want to take the trim off is either lazy or in a hurry to get onto the next car.

Calling tinters who take the time needed to do a complete job unprofessional is uncalled for, the industry wouldn't be so poorly regarded if there were more of them around.
