  • My new R36 toy and a big hello from the UK

Well I hope you don't mind me joining your forum being all the way from the UK, however there's not many R36 clubs at the moment and I know that you guys have a soft spot for them so wanted to show you my new toy.

I used to have a Golf MKV GTI Edition 30 with full spec including DSG and all I can say is great car. My only issues with the car was traction and space as I now have 3 kids, space was more of an issue especially where the boot is concerned.

So the GTI went and I was keen to stay with VW and noticed that the R36 might just be the car to carry the flag for a few years and all I can say is, WHAT A CAR!!!

The grip is just awesome and with my little gps tracker toy I'm managing 0-60 (0-100kph) in around 5.3 seconds!!! That's without launch control!!!

I'm also averaging around 400 miles per tank which aint bad for my type of driving.

Spec includes the usual high levels plus, dynoaudio, upgraded seats and premium bluetooth phone kit.

Anyway, I've attached a few pics and will review your comments later, be kind!!

Upgraded seats? I thought the R36 seats were simply R36 seats. I guess different options for different markets. Looks good though! And I'm not usually a fan of silver.

UK market had two options for the seats, one with 12 way adjustable and the other with at least 14 way plus special micro fibre inserts to hold you in when your testing the grip levels.

Yeah we only get the seats you have in the R36. As far as I know, they're not an option.

Which is great because they are AWESOME seats. Best I've had in any car, that's for sure.

Welcome to the R36 club, even if you are in the UK. At least you have the steering wheel on the right side of the car!

Yep, that's a phone keypad and it comes as part of the premium phone kit, nicley slides back down and hides away when you don't need it.

I thought you guys were due to get the premium kit this year??

                    Snort! Not likely.

I was most annoyed when on a recent visit to Spain one of my companies' felolow reps bog standard Passat had the premium phone kit including the pop up keypad. We have had to make do with a fairly ordinary and very expensive hands free kit.

The BS I was given was that the Premium kit was setting off airbags, and they needed a software workaround. Hmph.

Congrats, enjoy the car.. but a 58 reg? Thought it would have been 09.. my car was delivered on 11/3/08 and was the first 08 plate I saw.. I found some paperwork in it saying that originally it was a 57 and it must have had a plate swap in there somewhere..

400 miles on a tank isn't bad - the best I had from a 1.9l TDI Golf was about 500 miles between London and Edinburgh up the M11/M1/A1(M), leaving on a Friday night and stopping in Durham. Won't forget the girls in Darlington - 2 degrees, and they were still out in mini-skirts.. suppose someone kept them warm.. Anyhow, I digress..

To some extents, you're lucky to have the R36 there and not here.. exposed speed cameras, cops who are more interested in keeping the roads moving then booking people for doing 72mph in a 70 zone, better roads, etc..

Enjoy some of the good drives around over there too.... now for a challenge - a photo of your car going over the Medway bridge with a Eurostar going past..

Off topic, but used to go to the moon in the square quite often and also that club that has now closed down, called Maddisons..Awesome place.

Lots of ricers in Bournmouth. Nice to see a touch of class..
