Great to hear a couple of audiophiles go at it here... it was the last thing I expected on the forum when signing up for my new R36.

I have a great system at home Pioneer (SC LX71 Amp with BDP 51 blue ray and Orpheous Aurora 3's bi-amped with the centaur centaur and Energy RC10's for the rears)

Can Lance B or Swallowtail clarify the standard setup with the R36. I have the Sat nav that comes with the 30gb HDD and the audio in in the centre storage. What formated is supported in the R36 with the standard system and does the IPOD connection give any extra benefit?

You have Aurora 3's as well?? Huh!! Mine are also Aurora 3's but I removed the crossovers and put them outside the box and bi-wired them into the Plinius 9200 amp. I supply Orpheus and Duntech(the owner owns both brands) with the enamelled copper wire for their crossover coils and my son worked there putting the speakers and crossovers in the boxes.

Those Aurora's really work well when 350 RMS watts of power or force fed into them.

I have the standard stereo with the R36, but had to get the MDI interface installed afterwards. The MDI interface is put into the glovebox rather than the centre storage. There is a input jack that comes standard in the centre storage but this is for analogue output of the iPod, *not* the digital interface which allows for almost full interaction with the iPod. In otherwords, you use the car stereo touch screen as if it were the iPod and you can access almost everything on the iPod, like albums, artists, genre's, tracks etc as if you were using the iPod directly.

Thanks Lance B for the clarification. I will wait and have a play when the beastie arrives to see how it goes with the 30gb of space plus the 6 CD changer.

I believe the standard unit plays MP3's so would be interested to know if you can tell the difference between a high bit rate track from burnt onto a CD and stored VS that hooked up from the IPOD.

One more question... by hooking it up digitial can you play video on the main screen? It would be like going to the drive in again!!!

The 3's are a brilliant speaker, how much of an improvement did you see from doing the crossover externally?

iPod now can record MP4a and also at 256kbps, so may in theory sound better than a CD recorded with MP3.

Not sure about video as I have not tried it. I think the iPod can record video, but I do not think that there is a video folder when the iPod is connected so that may mean that it can't/won't play them. It may be different for the satnav system that you have as that has video capabilities due to the reversing camera.

There was a small improvement in sound imagery and clarity so that there is a rock solid centre stage and the instruments do not wander.
