  • Should I?

    Hi All,

Am very close to purchasing a 2002 Passat GP,2.0turbo(good price for what seems a car in good nick)

I believe this a good vehicle overall, but am a little concerned with pick up( have heard they are a little doughy) I am yet to drive it as I have to fly interstate to pick it up.

Is this the case and if so what can I do to give it a 'little ' help?

    Thanks
    sigpic

If you want to improve actual performance, a chip upgrade is the best bang for your buck...

If it is just the acceleration feel, there is a device called "Sprintbooster" that improves the accelerator pedal response...

      Should I?

Is there a particular chip that is better value/quality than another, and what sort of money are we talking?

Do a google search - I remember there were some chip comparison tests done by some magazines...

Bear in mind that not all brands are readily available here and you may also want to consider local aftersales support...

Maybe it is a stroked motor?

                Should I?

Have done some looking into the 'Sprintbooster', and the concesus seems to be that it isnt worth 'a pinch of s!#t'..

Have also noticed on the net, so called 'Performance chips' worth about $20..what makes one better than another for $300???

                Anybody able to help me??....please

As I mentioned earlier - sprintbooster is only for the feel - it does zilch to your car's actual performance...

For those $20 ebay so-called chips, I understand they are just a resistor placed in the wiring to fool the ECU into thinking the ambient temperature is lower than it actually is, resulting in more fuel injected in the engine and thus improve performance.

This may work in some cars but for VWs, the ECU has numerous sensor inputs and will adapt over time. My understanding when I spoke to my mechanic some time ago is that the ECU will adjust to the additional fuel over time and the car performance will be back to square one.

Some of the more knowledgeable members here may be able to give you a better technical explanation...

Use the search function Brett. This thread will be locked if any chip trolling occurs for reference.

What is chip trolling? Never heard that term before. I thought Brent's question was valid and I'd be interested in reading the answers myself.

what you want is a ecu chip. cost is roughly $1000-1500

                          none of that $300 bull****

or just buy a boost controller

Agree Brent's question is valid. Just overeacted after too many chip threads gone wrong.
