There's a range of Sunoco race fuels available from the Horsepower Factory in Dandenong. It's not from a pump, it's purchased in drums and it's damn expensive.

think i remember a few months ago seeing it at the shell servo in Laverton on the freeway heading to geelong.
haven't filled up there in ages so not sure if its still there.

In a blow to performance drivers with modern cars, Shell has announced that they will be ceasing sale of their V-Power Racing fuel, the only 100RON fuel available on the market.

While not entirely popular due to its ethanol content’s ability to destroy engine parts, owners of modern cars aiming for maximum power have always appreciated the extra power their engines are able to make on the higher-octane fuel.

Shell has made no announcement of replacing V-Power Racing with another 100RON fuel, but instead continues to offer regular 98RON V-Power as its high-performance fuel. Shell blames a “changing market”, which I would say is marketing-speak for “there aren’t enough people who will pay 30c/L over regular unleaded for gains they’ll never actually experience, when petrol is already so expensive”.

Adjusted for inflation, petrol is actually at one of it's cheapest points in history right now!

So while a full tank might cost $80 - $100 to buy today, when petrol was 80c/litre (as an example) $80 - $100 wouldn't buy as much as it does today. Also, compared to Europe and the UK, we're lucky to have it so good. Petrol over there has been equal to more than $2+ a litre for a LONG time.

Id say save your money and fill with 98RON as VW recommend..U wont get much power increase and the one the united sells has a high ethanol content.

Ah yes, the old conversion issue. The thing is that people still earn in pounds and pay in pounds - fuel was running at around £1.25-1.30 (diesel went up from 95p/l to about the same over the 18 months) when I lived over there, and realistically the hole it burnt in my hip pocket was the same proportion as what it is here. I used to work on equivalence when explaining costs - what does a dollar buy you here, what does a pound buy you there. Some other Aussie friends of ours there complained that a sandwich was converted to $10, but conveniently ignored the fact they were earning (converted) between $200-225K for the pair of them. Not bad for being 25, as they were...

For what it's worth, a pack of chips (crisps) here that cost around $1.50 cost about £.40-.50 there, a Mars bar etc that's about $2 here costs about 40-60p, clothes that can cost $100-150 can be bought there for about £15-30, a pint here that's around $10 is around £3-3.50, etc, etc..

And for those who say London's expensive, well, it is in some ways, and it's cheap in others. We lived in 2 flats - both about 5 miles out from the city, 2 bedroom, right on the Thames in both cases, and paid about £1350/month in rent fully furnished including council tax (residents pay that over there, not the owner). In Port Melbourne, high rise, water views (but not water front) are going for over $4000/month empty..

I wasn't just referring to the UK. I know people earn in pounds and pay in pounds.

Look at the rest of Europe! I am right (generally speaking)...
