  • R36 and Holden in street race

Did anyone catch the radio news this morning about a Holden Commodore(can't remember what type) and an R36 involved in a street drag race somewhere in western Sydney. I only caught a snippet, and my ears pricked up when I heard that an R36 was involved, but I missed the guts of the story and who was caught etc. There was some mention of a man on P plates being caught but I don't know whether it was the R36 driver or the Commodore driver.

It happened out near my way, and I've only seen one other R36 out here. I'm guessing it was a blue wagon, unless it was my wife

      I'll guess the P-plater wasn't in the R36.. probably can't spell "VW"..

Are you sure it wasn't the Nissan GTR (R36) ?

Im @ Penrith and there are 2 R36's on my street. One of them is always driven like its stolen. Although as Phaeton said, could be a Nissan?

No, it was definitely a VW R36 because the announcer said it was a VW R36.

Sorry, not cool. Not when it is on public roads and illegal. These hoons are idiots in my opinion. They should go to a track or organised meet, not endanger the lives of innocent people and waste taxpayers money fixing their damage or chasing them.

Personally, I don't care if they kill themselves being stupid but it's crazy how they have no regards for the safety of others. If caught, they should be charged with endangering lives and attempted manslaughter. It's comparable to firing a gun randomly into the distance and claiming you didn't mean to hurt/kill anyone. You've got to have rocks in your heads to think you are not putting others at risk. I do not feel we should condone this type of activity.

Test your cars and skills on a track, otherwise others may be hurt/killed.

How would you feel if someone close to you was killed by illegal street racing? It's not a race, it's a public road.

A vehicle has been confiscated following an alleged street race in Sydney’s southwest yesterday.

About 11.20pm Highway Patrol officers attached to Strike Force Raptor were conducting stationary speed checks in an unmarked police vehicle on the Hume Highway, Casula, near the intersection of Myall Road.

It is alleged the officers saw a silver Volkswagen R36 and a blue Holden Clubsport R8 travelling alongside each other, detected at speeds of up to 165 km/h in a signposted 70 km/h area.

Police pursued both vehicles as they allegedly continued to travel west along the Hume Highway, until the Clubsport turned right into Box Road.

Highway patrol officers continued to pursue the Volkswagen along Campbelltown Road until the vehicle came to a stop at a red traffic light at the intersection of Glenfield Road.

Police activated their warning lights on the unmarked vehicle and stopped the Volkswagon once the lights became green.

The P2 driver of the Volkswagen, a 20-year-old Macquarie Fields man was questioned by police at the scene before being issued a future court attendance notice for the offences of organising and taking part in a race between vehicles, driving at a speed dangerous to the public, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and not displaying a P-plate.

His vehicle was confiscated and his licence has been suspended.

Whilst the officers involved in this incident are attached to Strike Force Raptor, it is not alleged that the driver of the Volkswagen has any links with an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

Agreed. Though I still feel the driving offence should be treated harsher due to the potential damage (to human life) he could have caused. Absolute tool! Does not deserve the car or a license.

Doing 165 in a 70 zone is absolute madness and he deserves everything he gets, but the idiot probably took mum and dad's car for a spin and now it is confiscated.

How does a P plater from Macquarie Fields afford a R36 without being linked to an Outlaw gang..
