Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • R32 vs. R36

Hi guys, I've done my fair share of searching, but havent really found anything at all. Did any of the R36 owners test drive the R32? What did you guys think? I know that the R36 is faster by up to 0.9, and obviously a bigger car than the R32. But how different are they to drive and all? How different do they feel? How does the 36 sound compared to the 32? Cheers

Well, I drove my mates R32 a few years back, but I couldn't give you a comparison to my R36 as it was too long ago. Sorry.

Totally different cars. I swapped my mates R32 for a little while on a road trip and couldn't wait to get back into my R36.
I'm a big bloke, and the small space coupled with the recaro seats was very uncomfortable. I wasn't a fan of the dash, but as far as the ride went it did feel more nimble around the few corners we went around.

Can't be much more helpful than that...

The weight is the important thing to note here. My one criticism of my R32 is it's weight, so the R36 being even heavier would discourage me from going for it. And I think because of the extra 200kg it really moves into a different category than the R32. It's more of a GT, maybe something like an A4 or a 3 series rather than something you'd fang round a track with. It depends on what kind of driving you're going to be doing.

Nice topic....My choice of words would be a R32 more of a Racecar look and the R36 the everyday limo look.

Having driven both cars it all came down to the engine...

I was sold on the 3.6 and the fact that porsche are using this engine as well in there panamera was the icing on the cake...

I also like the fact that the R36 looks very understated.. It is a stealth machine with a lethal strike.. Love the launch control..

At the end of the day it's an individual thing and you would not be dissapointed with either choice.
