Thinking about upgrading to R36

The Government's economic stimulous package includes a 30% reduction in tax on new capital equipment for business, including new cars!, if purchased prior to June 2009. What this means is that there is a saving of about $6,000 on an R36. This means I *may* upgrade my 3.2lt Passat to an R36.

Took the R36 for a test drive yesterday and was quite impressed with the power, torque, seats, standard features and dynamics, a very well sorted car. Just deciding whether to take the plunge but a little concerned with where the economy is heading. Decisions, decisions.

hmmmm if it is an economic answer you are seeking, then keep your current car. nothing wrong with it and the notion of spending money to save money is a false one.

however, if this is about your love of cars and of driving, then economics has no place because very infrequently do you make money (or break even) on decisions relating to cars. so if you want one, buy one and don't think too much about the other stuff. if that concerns you, then stick with your current ride.

by the way - i am no role model as I got out of a lease early (cost $$) to get the R36, but no regrets!

I do agree in part. My point being that at some time I do need to update and what better time than when the government helps pay you to do so. As you rightly say, there is nothing wrong with my current car as it is very nice.

I do love driving, I do about 30,000km's/year, and do love cars and that is why I am contemplating the R36. I usually turn my cars over reasonably regularly, due to the fact that I do so many Km's, and thus I would be selling it off within 12 months anyway.

Your car looks fairly good, but a silver or white R36 wagon with sunroof and audio upgrade would be a fairly hot looking car. If I was you and it works out economically........ go for it.

My current Passat is a bloody nice car, with all the extras I have on it, but the R36 is better sorted and comes with them all anyway. The extra power and torque and seating are a real benefit. Decisions, decisions.

Got a mate who just bought a black one. You get a lot of awesome features as standard.

If it's $$$ you're worried about, might be worth asking your employer to see if they offer salary packaging. You could save a bit with the kms your doing. Got mine on a novated lease, doing 30,000kms a year...

Lance - been thinking about your question re the R36 and upon reflection, I thought I would give you a more carefully considered response to your original question.

After thinking some more, my advice to you is

BUY IT!

It is a great car and I think you are more likely to regret not buying it, than buying it.

really enjoyed it i suggest you follow your heart and buy it
you'll get a grade trade in on your car get a good discount from the government and still be able to get a great deal due to the economic climate

You only live once no ifs or buts!!

I lost 2k when I cancelled my V6 Passat order back in 2006 because I heard the R36 was comming, so my vote is just do it

Everytime I get out of my R36 I feel great!

Except when I have the wife with me trying to discourage any form of noisy acceleration:ballandchain: Using the paddles to down change as I come up to an intersection is sure to get a response, and then again when I accelerate away and hold the gears a bit longer...Maybe if I add extra padding over my left thigh it would help.

Depends what price you put on pleasure.
