Just got my R36 last week, loved the Bora for 5 years and didn't think I'd part so gave it to the wife!(heaps of brownie points now). The only dissapointment is the Sat Nav. My 3 year old Tom Tom has more features, how can I get the school zones, cameras, speed limits etc? VW have been completely unhelpful - "sorry that's the way it comes". Is there an upgrade I can download, buy?????

I solve the problem with speed limits, cameras, and school zones by paying attention to the signage and surroundings - particularly in NSW where every speed camera has at least one warning sign, and even the mobile ones have to display one. Having lived in the state of hidden cameras (wheely bins, private cars, unmarked fixed ones, etc) for 7 of the last 10 years, and only being pinged once, I must be doing something right.MY08 Passat 2.0 TDI Wagon

Have been looking into adding extras to factory navigation as well.
The RNS510 does not allow user friendly input of additional data, you need to modify the DVD supplied and that is a real pain useless you are comfortable with programming.
From what I can make out the RNS510 does not have audio alerts for your POIs so unless you are looking at the screen all the time you may drive pass the old cameras without knowing. Also features such as TMC is still not supported from VW with Suna (the national supplier for this service in Australia), that along with availability of updated DVDs for new road networks make the factory system look some what 2nd rate in our market. Nice looking though and great as a media player.
Stick with you portable unit on unfamiliar territory is the best advice until VW get their act all in the one sock.Flipper Dog
