  • R36 Reversing Camera

Hi there - has anyone had the reversing camera retro fitted to their R36 - or know if this is possible ?

If you've had it done, what sort of costs have been quoted ?

I have had it fitted by the dealer prior to delivery... So it is possible though I would say that it is not much chop (at night)... What I have experienced is the R36 does not have enough light in the rear and so it remains rather dark and useless.. (unless someone has any idea on how to fix it)...

I can't recall the price will have to check the invoice...

Is this the genuine VW version with guide lines etc, or a dealer fitted non-genuine alternative? VWA advised when I bought mine in August that the genuine item could not be retrofitted despite weeks of trying. I'm glad that I waited rather than accepting their offers of inferior alternatives - because it is excellent quality and works well at night.

They also told me that it wasn't possible to be fitted. You seem to imply that they did eventually fit yours... how did that happen?

It was dealer fitted.... I purchased the car that was going to be at the Brisbane Motor Show.... as this car did not have the reversing camera VW installed it ( i am sure that it did not come from the factory) I will ask them and get back to you all..

They did say that it was a genuine VW part which syncs with the RNS10

Interesting about your experience at night...

Interesting. Mine was one of the first bath of made-for-Australia R36's and VW Australia forgot to tell the factory to attach the camera. The dealer thought about it for a few months and finally got back to me: it couldn't be done, but here's two grand (I think - I was overseas at the time) for your troubles.

I'd find the camera fairly useful...
