It was a driver training course, yes.

Yeah, I've raced cars before... If I had have had time, I'd have had a wheel alignment done and a whole lot of negative camber added to the front. But it performed brilliantly for a stock factory car.

I'm waiting until after June to post an entire thread on the R36. A full review including the track day and pictures.

pretty sure that major camber adjustment is not an option with the passat (i like your thinking ), to get anything serious you will need adjustable strut tops...thats what my research has been leading towards....

I've owned a CC 3.6L for about 2.5 months now, am also in my mid 30's, and I don't think you'll be disappointed with your upcoming purchase. In sport mode, and with launch control, it is plenty sporty enough at least to me (previously I drove an Rx7 turbo, Boxster, E500 occasionally) and I think that with age and improvements in technology you expect more of creature comforts like park assist, adaptive cruise, rear camera, and ride comfort, nice leather seats etc which are present all the time, in preference to having to drive aggressively some of the time on harsh suspension to only be caught at the next traffic light, with a litre or two less fuel My brother also had a WRX and recently moved to an R36 sedan so his opinion may also be worthwhile, but having people staring at your car or parallel driving just to get a good look (or seeing it reverse parking by itself) is a nice feeling (still waiting to see another CC on the road). Of course that will go soon, but the handling, the power to easily overtake others on most roads and the car's practicality and general smoothness will make you a happy owner in the long run. And as far as imported cars, there isn't a better deal for this combination.

A couple of suggestions: Try and get the fleet discount (8-9% off, if you or someone is a member of a listed professional association or through a company), the park assist, camera, sat nav and adaptive cruise are good options IMHO, and I think with the sunroof and sports package (which I don't have) it would look even better. Also my car had a water leak (now fixed) from a badly bent door seal, so after taking it to a DIY carwash for the first time, just check for wet floors ! If ur in Sydney, try Chatswood as they gave me the best price.

I actually did go to chatswood. I live close to there.
I have asked for it to be fully optioned including 'lane assist' and a roof rack with bike holder. The list price was around 87K on the road. They seemed to have little issue dropping that down to 80K. I have not signed yet.

While they look superb, it's a LOT of work to keep them looking that way. White is the new black and I saw a white CC in Braidwood on Mother's Day. It looked sensational!

I actually originally wanted my R36 to be white but didn't want to wait 3 - 4 months so settled for the Blue, which I love!

Its a bit to do with pleasing the wife as she insisted on black. I wanted a grey/ silver colour. Not sure if its the same with the r36, but all colours except for white is an option, due to them being metallic/ pearl.

The R36 looks excellent in blue.

R36 has no extra cost regardless of colour... I still don't know why dealers charge extra for metalic paint. It doesn't cost any extra to make.

i doubt that. surely metallic paint is more expensive + more critcal on the painting + they then do a coat of clear.

on what basis do you make that statement seeing as even you pay +300 on a Yaris for metallic?

Not sure I understand..... I wanted a white R36 inititally. I didn't care about any options. The dealer had a Blue one with Sunroof and Sat Nav in the show room. So instead of waiting 3 or 4 months, I went with Blue which i love. I didn't pay more. If anything, I paid less with the deal I got!

You're correct - the cost difference to manufacture a metallic painted car over "flat" is minimal. If you don't believe me go ask a panel shop. It's historical from when it was a "luxury" extra to get a metallic finish, and now it's really just a money grab. Not all manufacturers charge extra for metallic, mazda for one I believe.

And yes, modern "flat" (i.e. non-metallic) finishes are also clear coated.

what? a car manufacturer trying to turn a profit through clever product segmentation and positioning?

I don't believe it.

Metallic paint has long been a costed option for many an auto producer, and whether it actually costs more to produce a metallic car or not really isnt the point - they can charge extra and people do pay for it. I am sure that more profit is made on accessories and options than the vehicle itself.
