  • R36 - Which 98 Fuel do you use?

Just curious what fuel Passat R36 owners are using?

By default i would use BP but may have to goto a Shell or Caltex.

    BP Ultimate
    Caltex Vortex
    Shell Optimax
    United 98

    Cheers
    Ray

I'm with you on BP as my first choice. Next would be Caltex and Mobil.

Interested to see if anyone has done any comparisons with this. I used Shell V-Power for the first few months when I got the R and then switched to BP Ultimate once I was told that the Shell is the same as Ultimate but just with additives anyway.
However, I haven't noticed a single lick of difference between the fuels. I had a big improvement when I put in the CAI but other than that it has barely deviated.
Contemplating switching back to V-Power to see how it goes with the CAI and also it's normally a cent or two cheaper than Ultimate and combine this with the 4c Coles discount gives a pretty big difference in the price of fuel.
      Cheers,
      Trent

Mostly Vortex 98 and BP Ultimate.

Ocassionally when I can't find the above I shove in Vortex 95 & BP Premium (95). Unfortunately this occurs a lot out in the country on twisty drives and I do notice the power loss...

Shell used to have a 100 RON fuel for a short while. Anybody know whether it's still available?

Nope - not enough demand for it

              Shame.
There's a place in Dandy that sells high octane fuel by the barrel if anyone's interested. Not cheap though.

Yeah - the race fuels are exxy, and you need your car tuned for it.
United sells 100RON fuel at some servos...but doubt it'll make much difference to bp/mobil 98 etc.
Something to keep an eye out on is E85 - you can get massive power out of it (with corresponding drop in fuel economy!). Car needs to be specifically tuned for it though...and only one store (in Melb) sells it atm
