  • 98 Passat Electric Windows+Climatronic

Hi there just wondering if anyone has had any trouble with their electric windows? I have had our 98 Passat V6 sedan for 12 months now and already have buggered up both of the passenger side windows (mechanical parts, mainly plastic have broken inside door). I got a price from Lennock motors in ACT and the thieves wanted about $280 for a piece of V shaped plastic for the rear and about another $300 to put it in. The front window only happened on the weekend so I haven't had time to really check it out but again I can see pieces of plastic broken inside the inner door trim. So I have fixed the windows closed for the time being.

To add insult to injury the Climatronic is also playing up and the car gets damn hot for the wife and kids around town. I think it may be a sensor in the dash because it blows cold air gently (on auto at 22 degrees) then randomly just shuts off altogether. The manual settings (econ) doesn't seem to work as it does the same or less in this mode.

    Please help!

    PS love the car!!!

Never had any problems with either the windows or Climatronic...

You should be able to vagcom the Climatronic to see what are the problems... hope that it works out well...

I think the "econ" button might just turn the a/c compressor off completely, unlike other cars where it runs the a/c on a setting that uses less energy but still cools. Do you have a "Lo" temp setting you could try ?

Hi Guys thanks for the tips what exactly is a vagcom? Are they something used by most mechanics?

I ordered the 2 new regulators today from germanautoparts.com and found the site easy to use with prices and good pictures. I'll let you know how I go with them!

While I was on the site, I saw they had an AC blower in the spare parts to suit climatronic. When I got the car it sounded like there was something in the blades on the passenger of side dash, when the fan (blower i expect) randomly started up. It no longer has that problem but it also doesnt blow the air so has anyone ever changed one of these? Is it common for them to go barmy?

vagcom is used to pull up error codes from the car's computer...

it can be a specialised hand held unit or a special cable connected to a notebook with the software...

            Thanks again!

Where and how much for the vagcom cable and the software?

No sign of the regulators yet.
