  • Electric Seats with Memory Option

    Hi there,

I'm about to join the VW fold, looking at a Passat Wagon. Woohoo!

Anyway, my question is about the Electric Seats option. Just wondering who has these and what you think about them. Also, the spec say that they come with exterior mirrors that are foldable with memory. Does that mean that they electronically fold in? Like when you park the car so you don't lose a side mirror on a busy street? Anyone tried this?

    Here's what the specs say:
    Electric seats with memory:
    • Front seats with 12-way electric adjustment, driver’s seat with 3 position memory
    • Electrically heated and adjustable exterior mirrors, foldable with memory
    • Automatic kerb function when reversing, passenger’s side exterior mirror

    Hey nting,

Yep, i got a .:R36 wagon which came standard with the memory seats you mentioned and all those specs work. For the mirrors, you have a switch/dial on the drivers side, near the 4 window buttons. The mirror switch/dial spins around to 3 postions, 1 of these postions is for the mirrors to fold inwards (for busy street shenanigans) the other 2 are for L & R side mirrors. I'm sure one of the guys on here will have a pic of what i'm talking about.

As for the seats (well .:R36 ones) they are amazing!! But just on functionality, the drivers 3 position memory seat is great as the height difference between my wife and i (and therfore driving position) is quite a bit. Press your nominated button and the seat and exterior mirrors move to your position. I think you might be able to set up your keys to do this also. The only thing you have to adjust is the rear-view mirror and the crap music she may have had on!

    Welcome to the VW family!!

    Cheers,

    Jayse.

Haha, Jayse you stalking me? Sounds exactly like what I pictured it would be.

But I'm not getting a R36 , just a 125kw TDi . So not sure if the mirrors will be exactly the same as yours. Hope so.

Also setting up the keys sounds fantastic. Can you do this yourself or do you need the dealer to do it? Yes, too bad it can't control the stereo too.

You can do the key's yourself, instructions are in the manual.
One thing though; the seat/mirrors do not move till you unlock the car and open the drivers door. If you open another door before the drivers door you will have to press the button at the base of your seat.

Pain in the arse if you have to put your kids in the back seat. Easy way to get around it though, once you put your kids in the car lock and unlock the car again just before you open the drivers door.

I'm sure there is a very good reason for this anomolie, but I can't think of what it would be???
But I wonder if this is one of the things that can be fixed with the use of Vagcom?

there's also another very cool feature:

when the rotary dial is left on "L" and you reverse, the kerbside mirror goes down to show the gutter for parking. goes back up when yo go to drive.

              the position is also "memorizable"

i have the 125kw and all these features are there, although the seats could have better support like the r36. No complaints with the leather though -top quality.

              go for it.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Cro, I read the above last week and tested it on the weekend. I can open any doors prior to the drivers door and the seat will still do its dance.

Funny how two cars built about the same time can have these little anomolies eh?
