  • Premium Bluetooth option

    Hi Guys,

Just waiting delivery on my new Passat. I have ordered the standard Bluetooth kit which I'm told is the genuine VW one. The kit is somewhere north of $700 bucks I have been reading this forum and other UK forums which talk about the Premium Bluetooth kits which fully intergrate with the RCD510/RSN510. I spoke to my dealer and he said that this is not available yet. I really wanted the fully intergrated kit and would be happy to pay a bit more for the "real thing". Does any one know if this will be available in the near future in Australia? Should I hold off and wait for the premium kit??

I have also read about some Warranty experience problems with after market installs, so I 'm reluctant to go down the parrot path.

    Thoughts anyone?

i would see if they can fit it later for the same price - 790? if so, wait until premium is out and see what the price difference is decide then.

i am still having major hassles with my nokia e61 phone hanging up and not returning the audio, but i think its phone specific.

also it is pretty poor having to go thru your contacts on the phone then dial, rather than via the RNS510.

have you ordered the rns510? is is a cracker- just drove a mates new 335i yesterday and we agreed the vw system is miles ahead of the bmw system which hasnt changed much since 2002. worth the 3k i reckon.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

IIRC premium bluetooth is the factory fitted system... I reckon it is unlikely that we will see that here... The dealer fitted system is the best you are likely to see IMO. BTW it aint that great either esp for the price!! The bluetooth that is in my wife's new Tomtom GPS is better

        Hey Richdave,

I think you are right. Not much chance out here for a while. Picking up car Friday so I have to go with what I can get now. Will be a bit pissed if 2 months later the Premuim is available at the same price!

Genuine 'Premium' Bluetooth has been available for several months from Harding Performance in Brisbane (ww.hp.net.au, phone 1300 730 949) costing about $2k for the real fully integrated system - which is superior to the current Nokia/Parrot based version on offer from VWA.

i had read that the new RNS510's will come with a built in bluetooth module in the next few months. Will be intresting to see if that happens. As for the good unit $2k for the unit is a lot what sort of capabilities does it give you ? I had trouble justifying 3k on the RNS510 let alone another 2k for the bluetooth.

I recently had the Bluetooth option fitted to my R36. I have the upgraded standard unit with color/touchscreen. The "ONLY" thing it does is ANSWER/END call and volume adjust. Paid $780 for it. Whilst l am very disappointed given the price it is handy to have. Just would have thought it would have paired with phone and come up with contacts and announced who was calling.

I wouldn't pay $2K for this option to do all this though!!

$2 grand - NO chance of getting that one! My Finance manager would have a heart attack!.
Looks like I will go down the path of buying a charger/cradle for my phone with the standard bluetooth.
I will have to do it the old fashiond way and look at the screen on the phone!

From what my mate has told me , his Forester Luxury XT with sat nav and bluetooth can only be used while stationary anyway, which is a real pain in the but! The only thing he can do is answer calls/hang up and volume control while he moving.

If you scroll down on this page you will see that this guy has installed the skoda blutooth unit. aside from the sat radio no reason why we can get all this stuff.

For about $500 you can get a top line tomtom et al and it comes with bluetooth. IMO why pay 5K for the VW satnav and bluetooth. I wont be getting the VW bluetooth in the next car that's for sure.

I am in USA right now and for the $100 I paid to d/l the US maps, the tomtom has been a real saver here... cant do that with the expensive incar system

richdave ive got a tom tom i use interstate in hire cars but imho the built in is fantastic and with the large screen, integrated functionality there is no comparison.

ok the bluetooth is pathetic but kinda works - conceded.

with rns510 nav info comes up on the mfd as well and give you separate info such as total distance left to travel , direction of travel and next turning point.

ive also zoomed down to 25m scale and driving fast the satnav keeps the map updated. this satnav has much faster updating than the bmw system i've used which costs more.

another neat feature is on the rns you press Map twice and it goes to split screen - the second screen can be configured to show a compass or route turning list.

other stuff: wagon you also get a reversing camera with guidance lines, 30GB hard drive & SD mem slot you can copy and save music to the HDD.

yes expensive but at least you do get value for your spend.

Well Ive had the car now for a nearly 7 days. THe Bluetooth Car kit installed by VW is excellent! The sound quality is very good and the phone automatically connect without any problem. Can only answer and hang up and change volume but I just bought a cradle/charger for my E51 Nokia and mounted it ( $60 bucks). Works well
