Check for any damages to paint and panels, check interior, like seats and trims, make sure that all the keys are working properly. Operate all lights and all accessories.
    Enjoy your new car.

If it is a petrol, tell them to only put 98 octane in the tank.

Take it for a (shortish) test drive BEFORE you hand over the cheque.

Check for spare wheel, key for locking wheel nuts, all fluid levels under the bonnet. Transportation chocks in suspension should have been removed. Check windows work correctly. Get salesperson to explain how to use everything (including MFD if you have one). If it is supposed to come with std accessories (eg floor mats), make sure you get them.

And in my case, check the VIN on the rego documents (it was incorrect ! ).

Buy a litre of the correct engine oil and leave it in the boot.

After you get it home, check headlight alignment (especially if you have OEM Xenons), tyre pressures (incl spare).

I think there may have previously been a thread or two somewhere on this forum a while back (maybe in other models sections ?), so it may be useful to search for them too, as they may have other things on the list.

Also read up on warming up engines and running in (a slightly controversial subject).

As per another thread on here, go and get a wheel alignment as most new cars are out of alignment on delivery. One of the poor guys on here found out the hard way with having to replace his tyres early

I always thought that pre-delivery inspection should take care of all the items mentioned above?
