  • Bluetooth for RNS510 -available

My dealer informed me that bluetooth was released for RNS510 sat nav
(on passat but maybe others as well) 2 weeks ago.

I am supposing its a dealer fitted option?

Anyone ordered it or planning to?

Feedback would be great on how it goes.

Latest news we MAY get it b4 christmas IF we get it, that will be slightly over 6 months.

But you guys keep telling me it will be worth it
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Hey Cro... what was the price of the bluetooth you have on back order? I'm thinking of ordering one myself.
      Cheers

Is this price for the genuine VW fully integrated 'premium' version or a 'Parrot' based unit?

I asked for a freebie, and they gave me that
I was half expecting the Parrot kit, but when they told me the kit hadn't been released yet I knew I'd get the RNS510 integrated one.

              no parrot!

I have a new Passat Wagon on order (due March 2009) with RNS510 and Bluetooth. Today I asked my dealer for details of the bluetooth device and received the following reply:

"Mate with the Bluetooth it is a very new system that is now being fitted. The old Bluetooth didn't suit the new MY09 sound system. The new Bluetooth is made by Nokia and I am told is very easy to use. I have only heard good reports. I don't at this stage have any information that I can forward you, but I will speak to the service department and see what they can find?"

I got the kit installed today, and so far so good.
I have two phones paired with it, and it seems that when both are in range the one that connected last gets priority.
I would have preferred to set the priority myself, but doesn't matter.

My phone auto pairs after a minute of starting the car, and call quality is pretty good. The one annoying feature though, everytime I open my phone (fold phone), the car connects to the phone. So the radio gets muted if I want to go through messages, or look something up.

I wouldn't pay full price for the kit, but I am glad that I have it now as I've been missing it for some time now.

                  Hi Cro,

Thanks for the info. Does it show your phone book contacts in the MFD screen & does it allow voice dialling?

If I'm honest I'm not sure it has that functionality, I'll have a look at the manual again tonight

Judging by the function's you've got on your bluetooth kit, it's the base version kit, not the premium kit.

The premium kit hasn't been officially released yet, so if the dealer said it was released 2 week's ago, there kidding themselve's.

I know for a fact it hasn't been released & the dealer's are waiting on VW Aust. to make a decision on the final pricing.

Also, with the Premium Kit, you can't look though SMS on your phone once it's hooked up. The car takes total control of all the phone's function's to a certain degree.

The phone book should also be transferrable, but this is a big draw back, as only certain phones will actually work.

We tried a heap of new phone's (7+ phones) & only one phone would actually transfer the phone book. Can't remember the model though sorry.

There are a number of drawback's with the premium kit, but I honestly can't all of them off the top of my head.

I know that if someone send's you a text, the SMS goes directly to the car & you are unable to copy the SMS to your phone.

There are a number more too!

Why can't VW supply us with a fully functioning factory kit like Audi? My brother just picked up a new S3 with Bluetooth installed & it worked perfectly with his iphone from day 1 - auto sync, voice dialling, contacts in MFD, etc...

Bluetooth for Passat with RNS510. AVERAGE.

Well i ordered bluetooth with the new passat. they quoted 790 but i got them down to 600.

It does work, but has ZERO functionality with the RNS510 or MFD except you can deactivate bluetooth from the setup menu in the rns510.

I called it from my car and the quality is average ( very echoy sound) but it does work.

To answer you press the phone symbol on your steering wheel - good

But to dial you need to initiate the call from the mobile and transfer to bluetooth by pressing the phone symbol - not so good

Overall, it works but is NOT good value at 600, let alone 790! having said that im glad we got it.

Yeah I have to agree. I was really expecting a great deal more for $790... Should have gone the parrot route instead as that is more "hands free" than the VW integrated unit, and therefore more road-code friendly. Must admit to some disappointment I am afraid...

I have a mate that works at VW and have heard there has been a delay on the release on the premium version due to issues in Europe with the system activating air-bags! (Not in VW's but it was going to be the same system as used by another brand). At this stage they are not sure when the bugs will be ironed out.
