Various forums have indicated there may be a problem with Zelex and Valeo aircons ( I could not determine the manufacturer before taking the car to the dealer).
Indicated repair was a slow gas leak from ....????, all covered with warranty.
Question : the golf has been back for a few small, annoying, repairs; would not their Vagcom unit have indicated a leak, earlier ????
If only I had been made aware of Rosstech`s VAGCOM when the AUD was in the 90`s.
probably only gets a alarm record when gas is very short and you get a high discharge temp: by this stage you've got very little gas left.

After thinking that mine wasn't going that well, coming back from Echuca to Melbourne on Tuesday (38-odd degrees), with the temp set to low and the fan up, the car cooled off in about 15 minutes, then with temp set to 19, stayed comfortable for the rest of the trip.

Nippon Denso is the best on the Market IMO. Yes the Euros are behind in that respect. Passat runs a fixed orifice tube set up so i would be getting someone with gear to hook up the gauges. And by the way they never lie!!! COuld be low on Gas which if it is , is most likely to be a faulty Evap which is corroded and causing a leak. They corrode as they are a part that has condensation on its surface at all times. Like i say before we all jump hook up the gauges. Never assume with AC or it WILL bite. Gauges NEVER lie

          B6 Passat A/C-Fix

          Hi All,

          Thanks for your input.

It went to the dealer and they found NO problem!!

I was still not satisfied as the problem was still there. I kept a log of the problem.

I took it back and was informed that some Golf's had a/c problems with the compressor. The fix was to replace it with a modified one and other parts. Apparently they were breaking up under our conditions for some reason. The dealer suggested that this may be the problem!!!

After they checked the system out, a fault was found with one of the fans in the engine for cooling. Apparently the smaller fan which works with the A/C was stuffed. They replaced BOTH fans--- all is ok now. The A/C is COLD, at 17 c, works all the time!!. A warning light etc does not show until BOTH fans have a problem. Gas, parts, compressor all good.

Just thought I'd let you know for others with a Golf; Passat, who may have problems.

          Thanks

Thanks for the update. Will keep in mind if mine turns pear shaped later.
