I have a MY09 too (same MFD) but my stereo unit is different to that one. I tried to get a HCDS car to work but couldn't.

Yeah I can't get any of the HDSC cards I have to work... No matter as 4 DVDs and the HDD was full!

I have a TRANSCEND 16GB SECURE DIGITAL HIGH CAPACITY CLASS 6 CARD as found on link below and it works just great.

Make sure you first FORMAT the SDHC card as FAT32 and then it's a matter of just copying your MP3 files onto the SDHC card..

Do you get the "Processing" message on the RCD510 when you insert the SDHC card?

SDHC CARDS ONLY WORK WITH RCD510, RNS510 ONLY HANDLES SD CARDS [MAX 2GB]

I have just ordered 2 x Transcend 4GB SD cards from techbuy.com.au. Apparently they are the biggest non-SDHC SD cards you can get, and they are getting to be hard to get.

Reading through the Jetta / MK V forum - looks like the RNS 510 has been around for a while (?since the 1st gen MkV golf), whereas the RCD510 is a recent development for various MY09 models & golf Mk6. Perhaps this explains why one is only SD compatible while the other has the up-to-date SDHC format.

In terms of why VW hasn't upgraded the existing RNS 510 in line with the new RCD.... the more I read into the forum, the more it seems that VW habitually and sporadically "updates" features on their vehicles, even between significant MY intervals.... creating a lot of confusion about "who's got what function" in the process!

Swallowtail, I might be wrong, but I'm almost certain that SDHC is 4GB and up and non-SDHC is 2GB and below. So not sure if they will work in your RNS.

They are 4GB SD cards, not SDHC. 99% of 4GD cards out there are SDHC, but these Transcend ones are definitely only SD, so are compatible with SD only readers. There are instances out there of people using them in RNS510s.
