  • Using an SD card in the RCD510

The 09 Passat comes with the RCD510 touchscreen (different from RNS510SATNAV) which comes with a SD card slot.
Currently you can buy 16GB SD cards and I was wondering if anyone has used the SD card to store their music, how the system works with the SD card and how easy it is to use.

You've got to make sure it's an SD card..which i'm pretty sure only go up to 1-2Gb(maybe 4GB??) as opposed to the SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) card which can go up to 16GB. IIRC from reading the manul on my RNS510 you can only use SD cards to transfer files to your RCD510.
It's a pain loading and transferring using only a 2GB SD card so i got 2...they are pretty cheap if you look around. I've used crazysales.com.au @ $5.95 each 2GB card. No probs with them.
        Hope this helps.
        Cheers,
        Jayse.

When you play MP3s with the SD cards, do you get the title and artist info displayed? Also do the steering wheel controls work. I will do this as opposed to the iPod option if it works.

Going on my RNS510, yep the artist and song title come up on the screen. I have played songs off the SD card and the HDD of the unit and it works just the same. With the buttons on the steering wheel, you can scroll up and down through your songlists with the buttons on the RHS and the buttons on the far LHS control the volume.

            Cheers,
            Jayse.

Cool Jayse! Thanks for the info.

What about on a RCD510? Not sure if the RNS510 has more options due the 30GB HDD and so on.

What sort of play time can you get on a 4GB SD card?

RDC510. Pretty sure the RSN would work the same way. If this didn't work I was up for a $400 ipod adaptor

                            Hi Guys,

I just purchased a MY09 R36 with an RDC510. I am using a 8gb SDHC Kingston card loaded with MP3's. I created the MP3's directly from my iTunes library. It works well and song title / artist info is displayed on the RCD510 and the MFD. Only gripe is that is can be slow to browse the directory structure (however the manual does state this). I believe that the max card size supported is 32gb.

                              Fantastic response ash!

In regards to the slow browsing, do you know what speed (Class) your SDHC card is? Sometimes they write it as Class X (or X is a number in a circle)? Eg. (6) = Class 6.

Also, are you using FAT32 or NTFS? Sorry for getting techy. I will try these myself but I don't get my car till May 09!!!
