Well, the saga has almost concluded..

The boot release button was fixed on Thursday, and the dealer looked at the corrosion. Here's a tip - any corrosion has to be reported back to the factory, and they determine how to fix it, so it's at least a 24-hour turnaround to get a reply.

The long and the short of it is that it's going back on Tuesday to the dealer, for them to replace the corroded bolts, then it's off to a VW-approved panelbeater for repainting. I'm going to need it for a trip from Melbourne to Newcastle next weekend, so the deal is that I'll get it back by Thursday. We'll see...

And with a bit of luck, this'll be the last time it needs warranty work (I'm touching wood all round here).

Well, the corrosion has been fixed... the bolts have been replaced, and the side strips of the engine bay repainted.. Very definitely new bolts, the old socket-head cap screws have been replaced with normal hex-heads, which does make me wonder slightly (since usually SHCS have a higher tensile strength).. the colour match wasn't too bad, it's a slight shade out, but that could have been the poor light when I viewed it.

It was also driven for 6km while it was away - not so bad...
