  • Request from V6 wagon 18" wheel package owners

This is a request from the V6 Passat wagon owners (maybe even sedan owners too) that purchased the factory fit 18" wheel package that also comes with the 15mm lowered springs/sports suspension.

If you could do me a favour and look under the front guards at the bottom of the springs themselves and advise me what colour the painted dots are on the springs. They are usually clearly visible and there should be four dots of colour. This is an urgent request and would be much appreciated if anyone could check this for me and report back here.

Each Passat uses different springs and they are colour coded to tell you which is required for each vehicle.

I decided to purchase this suspension package after I had the car for 6 months. Unfortunately, VW supplied the incorrect springs for the front and this has been verified by the incorrect coloured dots on the springs. VW now is supposed to have the correct springs for me, but before I have them installed I want to make sure these ones are correct.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Is it really that difficult to help me out?

I posted this thread yesterday asking for some help from any V6 Passat Wagon owners with factory fitted 18" rim package, which automatically comes with the 15mm lowered suspension, to help me. I have not received any response and I am surprised as it is a *very* easy thing to check. No tools required.

It really is not a difficult task to check the springs and report back with what colours the dots are on their springs. There is no need to undo anything, no need to lift the car up. All you need to do is look under the front guard at the front spring coil which is clearly visible just above the top of the tyre and there will be 4 coloured dots on one of the coils.

Dont get upset mate, maybe the guys with V6 Passat wagons havent been on here yet or are snowed under with other things?
I am sure someone will come to your aid in time. We are here to help, but we all have reasonably hectic lives!!

yes i think the problem lies in the fact that there arent that many passat owners on board. And probably even less that fit your quite specific request. Have you tried heading to the dealer and poking around their cars perhaps?

Yes, I've been to my local dealer and they don't have any in stock.

I do believe that they have the correct springs in stock now and my car is booked in to have them replaced, but I just wanted to make sure that they are the correct part. The part that is listed for the lowered suspension V6 Passat Wagon is not correct. The reason I know this is because the coloured dots on my springs are different to the Passat V6 wagon with lowered suspension that I saw a few weeks back. I wish I had written down what the colour code was on that Passat.

Having said that, I do *think* that the colour code of the springs that they now have is the correct one.

          Thank you for your suggestion.

                Thank you very much, Andrew.

Yes, these are the correct ones as I had them fitted on Friday. Everything is spot on now and the car handles great in comparison to the old springs and dampers and the 15mm lowering makes it look great.

It's only 15mm, but to me it makes all the difference to the look and to the handling and it is still driveable without needing to be overly concerned about speed humps and the like.
Like we have discussed previously, I am not one that likes huge suspension drops as I think they can look silly and it means that the car becomes almost undriveable around town.
I will attempt to get some photos up after the weekend.
Did you resolve your front end noise?

That haldex must really be fun for you now Lance!! 18"'s, haldex, lowered... nice!

Today (in Syd) would be a great day to get out there and see how good it is.

Knocking noise was cracked engine mounts! Bizarre and disconcerting, but fortunately all fixed. (Had and accident where i banged both wheels on one side into the gutter).
