A mate of mine put me on to this website, which has a DIY alternative to the VW offering. Has anyone tried or investigated this?

The sales guy says 'our top model W2-D7720V which can
just plug and play this into a 2008 Golf GTI '..and I suppose Passat too...for only a few hundred $'s..
