Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1974 Passat Advice

    Hello,
I have a 1974 Passat which I am in the process of doing up with the addition of a few performance mods. I am having a hard time sourcing a 5 speed gearbox and a set of 15x6 alloy/mag wheels for the little beast. I have found a few good suppliers here in Canberra who are experienced in the art of the VW. But I would be grateful for any advice or guidance from anyone who has experience with this model.

    Thanks in advance.

    Passat

Love them.I've had heaps oops I mean lots in the past.
I have a 5 speed that will fit but you will have to modify your own mounts.
    $400 plus freight.
15by 6 wheels shouldn't be hard to come by

      Grab it!

If you have the $$$s.. then grab it. A Passat Mk1 with a 5 speed is very desirable.
And welcome to our community! Most of our users have Golfs, but many of us (myself included) have had Passats in the days when you needed a bit more room for the kids and we loved them (both).
Post us some pics when you get a chance.

Surely an audi 5 cylinder engine and 5 speed is the ulitmate upgrade for your passat? Early audis are peanuts to buy these days, might even work out cheaper than buying just a gearbox.

          Would it fit?

Can't see the Audi 5cyl fitting. Too long.

No it fits, you need the audi offset radiator too.

Thanks for replying. How much would freight cost from Tassie to Canberra?
