Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • need info on 76' passat wagons

well i have been driving past this orange 76 passat wagon everyday after work and have finally left a note on the window asking them if they would like to sell it. it just sits there and i have never seen it move. what can u do to these puppies? are parts readily available? can u get coilovers for them? is it going to need a bigger money tree than the mk1? here are some pics taken with my phone.

iirc, it was for sale a while ago, in richmond maybe (somewhere inner city like) for about 1500 I think. it was on carsales.

I wanted to go have a look at it at the time, but didn't have the cash,.

auto or manual? looks in pretty good nick.

I don't think you can get coilovers (not that I know of) but some parts will be really difficult (small trim bits etc) but alot of the mechanical parts are all golf stuff

Parts really aren't a problem, usually always available from some fellows in Germany. Its identical to the Audi Fox except for the rear end. Alot is changeable with the B2 Audi 80 and US Volkswagen Quantum and Brazilian Volkswagen Fox upto 1993.

Alot of rubber bushing and other engine parts are still used on the 2010 Brazilian Volkswagen Gol / Parati. I ordered new sway bar mountings from the 2010 Parati and they are identical to the 1976 part!

There are no rear coilovers, as the Passat uses a separate spring/damper unit. best you can get is Bilstein B6 monotube and custom springs, or convert to air-bag suspension. There are writeups on the VW/Audi B1 community "Dasher Owners Group" (Passat was named 'Dasher' in USA)

Would you happen to have a unmolested woodgrain insert for the dashboard? Many of them have holes cut in them for radios..its a difficult RHD part to obtain!

Passat parts available, and or whole car

For anyone who likes these cars, I have a 1980 diesel wagon in Kermitage Green (aka Santos Green), with a LOT of parts, to go to someone in a month's time thereabouts. I have been messing with Passats for about 15 years or so, and it's nearly time for me to transfer to something else.

Unfortunately I don't have a regular access to the web, and people would have to call me on my mobile for the details, so its not much use posting me a reply...sorry bout that.

                    My no is 0408 514 180,
                    and I'm based in Brisbane.

                    Regards,
                    Tim.

What parts are you after vinderliker?

Most likely someone on Dasher Owners Group would be able to help..

                        Hi Alex,
I am after interior stuff at the moment, glovebox, under dash paneling and a centre counsole, blue door panels and new window winder. I might be able to source some stuff around Canberra from A&R or Volksparts, but I am always on the lookout for stuff. I also want to get a TS steering wheel, but I know someone who has one I just need to get the dollars together. Since I have had the car from around Xmas 2005 I have replaced just about anything with the drive train including the engine, carb, exhaust, springs, shocks, pads etc, I virtually have a new second hand car.
The last sort of mechanical thing i may need is a set of front springs and maybe a brake upgrade, although I can get them here in Canberra for about $410. I have had a few people say to me that they have parts but have not got back to me.
                        James

I have a spare center console that goes over the gear selector (but not the section where the three aux gauges go). Door trim panels i can probably get, but the vinyl would have to be dyed (as it is beige). Window winders i have somewhere, they are the type without the chrome insert.

Regarding the brakes, depends if you want to upsize or just want better standard brakes. I personally chose Audi 80 B2 239mm vented carriers and bought the calipers new from the USA. These are much nicer then the ATE units and have a greater pad surface area. The master cylinder is being upgraded to the USA Audi 5000 (Audi 100) 22mm unit part number 431 611 019K and the accompanying 7" booster that requires a new clevis extended by 15mm (part 443 721 213). Hopefully those parts all suitable, i'll know soon enough!

Thanks for that Alex. I have a think about what I need. I have to watch the dollars at the moment as i have already spent so much on the car.
