Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Conservative buses???

Yeah. Most people think the older Passats as a bit of a plodder. (The newer ones certainly aren't!) I loved my '75 Passat wagon. Boy was she fast! Left Holdens standing and did a reliable 35mpg. Only thing I have against her is she did a heater hose while I was working under the bonnet with the engine running. 2nd degree burns to the back of my hand and wrist. 3 weeks of daily hospital visits and still got the scars!

Just stumbled across this thread. I assume you guys know that the B3 Passat (the one with the under-bumper grille) was imported here?

There were only 14. 2.0 GL 16V sedans and wagons, 2 90 models and 12 91s, from memory. I know cos I owned one of 'em - ex TKM (then importer) car.

There have been some private imports, too - saw a GT wagon driving out of Maitland last year.

Nearly bought a red 91 wagon abt 18mths ago, but was a pretty tied example. Cheap though, about $4k. Saw my old car on carsales a few months ago (white manual sedan) for about $4k too.

        Successful cars

Yeah, the Passat sold well in the 70s. Wagons were very popular and much sought after on the 2nd hand market. The '76 onward with the short gearstick and placcie bumper ends especially. They seemed to be a little conservative for many people but mine handled well and was very quick. Late model Passats are mostly autos (which cancels them right out for me) and definitely regarded as prestige cars with a price tag to match.
